Keep reading published articles & TV interviews etc that state that \"majority of the parents and educators\" interviewed welcome this change (from t-score to banding). Isn't it misleading? Then some heads up there must roll.
      ...

Yuh. Incongruent with our poll up there leh. Or maybe they only polled unkiasu parents and educators... πŸ˜‚

Soli poll not valid as participants are a self-selected lot called Kiasuparents! πŸ˜‚

Some years ago, the edu minister at that time suggested reducing weightage of mother tongue on t score probably due to parents complaining about the difficulty of studying Chinese

Did i remember correctly that caused an uproar and that idea was scrapped completely?
        Eventually it remains status quo
The Edu minister got into serious crap for even mooting that idea. It goes to show that the Chinese lobby is still very strong in Singapore.

It was sad because if the idea had gone through, it would have really helped to reduce stress at standardized exams where students have to do equally well in all subjects in order to be deemed successful - as measured by their eligibility for coveted secondary schools.

          Busymom:

What you have written is well and good, but what if DSA academic is removed and instead DSA leadership is introduced? Then leadership would be the only criteria for that group of students, no? Aren't there some schools which currently have DSA leadership? :?
The short answer is if MOE insists in emphasizing DSA via leadership quality as an option, then explain to us why such DSA is required by the schools, i.e. the rationale? If there is no requirement by the schools especially top schools, it is clearly just a subjective ticket for schools to suka suka admit anyone they know or like.... what meritocracy?

To answer the question in bold, I ask you one.
Do you know why today such schools who admitted kids with leadership qualities need them?

So, by that token, kiasu parents like t-scores? and unkiasu parents don't? Majority of Singapore parents are unkiasu? Or maybe unkiasu parents don't even know or care what is happening and think that removing t-scores means removing PSLE completely. Yay! I also want. :celebrate:

But ALL subjects is only 4 subjects. If our kids are really so bad in coping with 4 subjects then how to cope with 7-11 subjects in secondary? :?

I think the scenario is more likely to be: kiasu parents try to learn and understand what the new grading system is like - then they come to the conclusion that it may not be a good idea to remove T-score afterall. Un-kiasu parents leave it to MOE and believe that new grading system will be better in accordance to what MOE said without questioning what exactly is the new grading system and how it works in detail.

iirc, it is kiasu parents in this forum who want the t-score to be abolished...consistent with superkiasudad's sentiments....his posts showed that he looked forward to scrap T-scores but unfortunately his kid would not be able to benefit from this change.

I feel sometimes the measures all too simplistic . Like they said " all school are good schools " thinking that will change our mindsets . Now they stop saying so I guess we are back to not all schools are good schools.

There is also an attempt to make some school niche schools so that more will be attracted to the specific activities of the school but this will not work cos people are still focuing more on academic results and 树风.

I also agree with what many had written about not using leadership as a criteria for admission on top of results . It’s like why u need 400 head prefects in top sch like RI! Then who will be the team members and think tank in society next time . All the leadership roles in primary school are not the real leadership we need in workforce , if it’s so we will have these ex head prefects helming DBS/OCBC etc.

Primary school (curriculum) is where you are nurtured and tried out various activities . It’s NOT a place where your parents use their resource to nurture you outside for you to be " measured" and " compared " with the rest on your maturity level, behaviour , academic competence, Cca skills, exotic skills for you to get admission to a prestigious secondary school.

270++ and 250 same band, ballot loh :frustrated:
                      A 270 + is likely 4 A*
A 250 is likely atleast one A, most likely more than one A.
So not likely in the same band.

                        Mabbe leadership plus 250 > 270++
