      hi parents,

my girl is currently at Cedar IP S1. she needs to study & do her homework until 12pm or even 1am midnight almost every day. Is that normal?
she is also taking Japanese as third language...

i'm really worry she doesn't get enough sleep....

Maybe she wants to ensure and double check no mistake for her works ?

On a separate note, don't find my DD doing that too.

she spends lots of time for projects and administration stuff (she is the class leader currently), so only can do homework in the last minutes :slapshead:
besides, we stay in tanah merah, so need to catch school bus around 6.05am and it takes 45 min to 1 hour to come home after school 😞

Yes, project works are time consumimg. Need to balance well for both academic subjects and project works.

My dd (yr3 ip) sleeps at 10pm and gets up at 6.30am. Class exco for 3 yrs. Sports traing 3x for 3 yrs. 3rd lang for 2 yrs, quit this yr. She has piano ballet chinese tuition and just completed a cert in public speaking. She has just started taekwondo lessons. This yr she is in sch+class excos and sports ldrship. I still don't see her sleep late.
She usu does her hw when she gets home immediately. Her projs all done in advance, no last minute work. Has time for tv/newspp/books also. GPA still good.
You may wish to talk to yr dd about time mgt cuz workload increases every yr.

            mellory,

This is only term 2 and she is only in year 1. It is a steep learning curve from primary school.
One of the biggest distractions is the handphone - there is a group chat for everything…exco, cca, project work, etc, etc. This is something you might want to check on and help your girl manage better.
It’s great that you have picked up on her late hours and I too agree she might need help to manage her time better. Do give her the time and space to get used to Year 1 as well as enjoy it. Cedar is a great school!

Is there any difference between IP track and the normal track in this school? What is the difference and is there alot of homework? Thank you.

Hi, I heard from my tutors from Cedar Girls (some of the small tuition groups in our centre are for Cedar Girls only), the amount of homework given depends on individual teachers. Some teachers give more homework while some may give less.

Sec 4 non-IP students have more traditional homework (practice questions, drilling papers) while the IP students have more projects to do.

The school prepares non-IP students for O level and IP girls for A level.

Power up your future with high quality small group tuition.

For the IP track, you will not have Home Econs but Food & Consumer Education (and it only starts in term 3). There is an extra subject called 'Research' which teaches you about how to construct research papers etc. For math, we cover the same topics as the O level track students but with a few extra topics as well. There is also a lot more projects in the IP track. From term 1-3, there would be at least 2 group projects assigned to you per subject. It requires team work and co-operation between group members. Every year end, we have a promotion criteria. In order to proceed on to the next year (Year 2 etc.) you must meet a certain standard of expectations. I'm not sure whether they do this in the O level track but they do in Cedar for IP. Also, the IP track focus a lot more on your self-discipline. It depends on you to manage your time well (because of projects) and set your priorities right. I have friends who procrastinate a lot and end up not having enough time for homework and projects. I'm not sure about the homework load for the O level track so I can't really tell you whether there is a lot more homework. But definitely without fail, there would be homework for you to complete every day. But if you really cannot complete in time, and have a reasonable explanation, the Teachers would be kind enough to give you an extension. if you want more information, you can visit this website: http://www.cedargirlssec.moe.edu.sg/wbn ... ndbook.pdf
