      Tetsujin:
The Parenting Talk on Thursday is mainly sharing by 2 parents on their parenting experiences as both their boys received the \"All Round Excellence\" Awards in Sec 4.

This award is given to the top 15 students in the Sec 4 cohort for their overall performance academically, leadership, CCA, CIP etc.

I don't think it will be the right platform to bring up Sec 4 queries.

You should make sure you attend all the Sec 4 Parent Teacher Meetings (PTM), and meet the subject teachers to find out how your boy is doing.

One critical meeting for Sec 4 parents I think is either in mid year or Sept PTM where they will brief parents on JC Subject combi.

PM me, I have last years presentation, I can email to you.
Thanks all for the useful information. I shall meet all the subject teachers (usually didn't in the past)

Hi Tetsujin, I PM-ed you already.

Just want to ask our HCI community here whether you know Socratic Thinking and AAT are exam subjects for sec 2? Or are they part of LA?

        TIA

Hi just sourcing for views and comments from the parents with kids in sec1 in Hwa chong. Are your biys spending alot of time in their CCAs, projects, etc? Weekdays are all buzy and weekends spent catching up on lost sleep and homework. So much so , I don’t see him having much time for revision and he sometimes finds even a 3 to 4 hour family evening out for dinner taking up too much time.

Ya, my DS in Sec 1 also spending almost all his time in school and doing his homework, projects and trying to score Aces points. 😞 . Maybe he has yet to master the time management skill

Sec 1 Parents, your boys are now in Secondary School and taking 8 subjects instead of 4.

They are also taking a more intense CCA.

They will be feeling alot of stress, so please support them.

The school will make sure they spend a balanced amount of time in school work and CCA, and in between school and start of CCA,they can go to the library to do revision.

Teach them better time management and they will do well.

You will have to get used to seeing them less as they will be spending alot more time in school as compared to when they were in primary school.

Yes. Time management is indeed very important. But hor, practically there isn't enough time at all. One of my DS' friends commented that the stress level is higher than taking PSLE.

I do not disagree stress level is high, but that is because they switching from Primary to Secondary schools. They will eventually learn to cope with the pace.

It gets worse when they go to JC.

My son just started JC this year and though they take less subjects, it is more intense and the workload is much more compared to High School.

So parents will have to get their kids used to the pace in secondary school.

If you face any challenges in this area, talk to the teachers or the consortium directors.

My son was from ProEd, both the consortium director and assistant consortium director are very helpful!

                    Good Luck!
