Choosing and Evaluating Primary Schools
-
Call the primary and speak with the Principal. I did that before DD1 enrolled for P1 many years ago with a couple of shortlisted primary schools. I was granted access to the school during recess time so I have a view of the children’s behaviour and also had a chance to speak with the Principal and assess my feel about the school.

Does anyone has the list of the primary school open house date?
This is the list for 2015. Open house was in July 2015. At least it gives a glimpse of which primary school has conducted open house before.

I think the 2016 dates are not out yet if I am not wrong. -

I don't know if they will still do that. I guess it is case-by-case and of course, it all depends on the Principal. My DD1 is already a teenager, so I did that really long time ago. I visited 2 primary schools then.BlueBells:

Hi. I am staying at Pasir Ris. I have 3 kids (2010, 2012, 2014). I was from Kong Hwa Pri School. Wanted to send my kids there but very concern about the distance and the traffic jam in the morning. I m a SAHM with no helper and able to drive my kids. Just worried if getting my kids to wake up early to travel to school brings more harm to them… Another point to consider, if all 3 goes to school at the same time (P1, P3, P5), their after school hours may be different… By then, fetching them might be a chore… Any advices, please?
I also looked at Neighbouring school and seems like those popular school like Pasir Ris Pri school, White Sands - need balloting within 1 km which means I hv no chance at all… Haven’t check others yet… 3 schools Meriden, park view, Elias park are within 1km…
How would u choose? Any advice is appreciated… -
Maybe check with the school transport first? Getting the younger two into the car, if you have no one taking care of them at home, when you send the elder one to school is no joke.

None of the 3 schools listed, i.e. Meridien, Park View and Elias Park, require balloting for those living within 1km. It's a no-brainer. Pick one of the three and there's no need to spend any time worrying.

If you join the schools (Pasir Ris/White Sands) as PV, you should be able to get in without balloting in Phase 2B. Balloting for those schools usually happen in Phase 2C.

Too late to PV for a child born in 2010 as enrollment would be this year.
