In this case, how do the RI students get University placings before the release of the A Level results? Please correct me if I am wrong. Thanks.randwick:
How useful or how recognisable is the Raffles Diploma? Anyone can share?
Don't think it's of much use. -

Thanks.
Let's put it this way, many of my dc's friends got multiple offers from universities before the release of the A level results and they didn't mention anything about RD. What's more important are your past results, predicted results, CCA, personal statements, and any course-related tests.jtoh:

Yes, it's useless. Both my dc have a dip with distinction. No use at all.
I do not agree that the Raffles Diploma (RD) is useless. It is awarded to students who have successfully completed the Raffles Program (RP), a 6-year or 2-year program which is unique to RI. How can the RD (a certification for RP) be useless ?doodley:

Sorry, but i think it is useless.
RAFFLES DIPLOMA
Given to graduands of RI alongside their GCE ‘A’-Level certificates, the Raffles Diploma (RD) is a certification that recognises and celebrates student participation and achievements in a wide spectrum of activities beyond academia. Upon meeting the basic criteria for all five development domains – Cognitive, Character & Leadership, Community & Citizenship, Sports & Health, and Arts & Aesthetics – Rafflesians are automatically awarded the RD, with exceptional students obtaining a merit or distinction in one or more domains. Singapore’s local universities, as well as renowned institutions such as Stanford, Virginia, Cornell, Princeton, Columbia, UCL, Oxford and LSE all recognise the merits of the Raffles Diploma.

When your DC is applying to uni, maybe u can let us know whether the raffles diploma is useful. As far as I know some of the unis mentioned above, they never ask for the raffles diploma. Yes, they do know the reputation of raffles, but no they don't really bother if u have a Rd with distinction or no Rd.

So for uni application, what exactly do they look for really? Does it all boils down to perfect As? Do they look at mainly results from Year 5 and 6 or the entire 6 years?

Depends on which Uni which country u apply to

Local unis: Barring courses which require test/interview (Med/Dent/Law) or through DA, it is largely based on the grades -> UAS. For early admissions, conditional admission is given based on prelims grades, but at the end, they still want your A level grades.

Top UK unis:
For boys going to NS, you can only apply when you are in NS, the year before you intend to matriculate. So they will apply with actual A level grades.
Girls with no gap year will have to apply in JC2 with predicted grades which is calculated based on some unknown formula taking into account performance during CTs/promos/prelims.
Most courses require 3As in relevant subjects. In addition a personal statement is required. The personal statement is the one that makes or breaks.
I don't know about US and Oxbridge. -
Anyone went for last Friday’s Year 3 subject selection and RA talk?
Any comments?
