For topics such as environment, food web etc, good to read sc textbook, old or new, to have a better idea.wilburlim:
That's right. I wish teachers can teach properly.
with this kind of express teaching, it tells me i have to plan a schedule to make sure daughter truly understands the topics. i do not have high hopes for this mid year...but hope :xedfingers: to be prepared for anything thrown in our way for prelim preparation.
2 days ago, my daughter asked for science tuition because she is so scared with the 'touch and go' teaching method done in school...told her we can make it WITHOUT science tuition. wish me luck

Your DD is very sensible. She really wants to do well. Great Mother and Daughter team :rahrah: mummy trying her best to guide and Daughter trying to do her best.wilburlim:

My DD can do better but she is not willing to do so.. That is frustrating :frustrated:

I listed all the science topics from P3-6 as well as P6 Math topics...and printed out the list. Just looking at all the topics made me stressed
I told dd this morning that her 6 chapters now also haven't done with revision. Next time, in P6 at this time, chapters from P3-P6 will be tested
have to complete the topics before prelims.

'Environment' and 'food web' are heavy topics...lots of stuff to remember. Until now, I still can't remember differences between different communities.

No Affiliation, no CCA, no GEP - nevermind!
Don’t forget that the majority of students get in with their results. Granted the stress in greater as the stakes are higher but to be honest if DC is a consistently top performer all of his/her primary school life, chances of doing poorly in PSLE are quite low. So don’t stress too much about DSA…DC should just continue with what he/she has been doing all along and chances of getting into dream school should be quite high.
On the other hand, for the less consistent DCs it is important for parents to set realistic goals to avoid overstressing the child. I know of parents who over load the child in P6 to try and push him/her to meet a certain target. More often than not, this seems to backfire.
As parents, we all have hopes and dreams for our DCs. We do need to stay realistic and remind ourselves that what’s most important is DC’s happiness.
The choice of sec school is important. Don’t just take into consideration the cut off points. There is so much more to consider. I always feel so very sorry for the kids who live on one side of the island waking up 5am to reach their sec school at the other side of the island on time. Is compromising on their rest really worth it? School is challenging enough as it is without having to struggle with lack of sleep. Oh and don’t forget that sec school is just one stage of their school life…they need to keep their stamina for the even more challenging JC/poly/ite/uni school days.
All the best for SA1! -
I don’t even remember anything about PSLE except my T score. There is no stress at all even though I was the candidate then. Now I am feeling so stressful when I am just the mummy. Sometimes, I was wondering… was our parents stressed then as well, but we are not? Or is our kids equally stressed now?

It is good to read the textbook for this topic. The textbook has pictures and more illustrations that will definitely help in better understanding of the whole topic...like reading a story book.

if you read only the summary in assessment books, you may feel the topic is very heavy.

Good advice.
Take balanced diet, sleep well, stay hydrated, relax. Don't be stressed by the name, PSLE, it is just another year-end examinations only in bigger scale

I go round my neighborhood and check whether any sec sch kids holding hands. If got, straight away record in personal black book. :rant:Both Hub and I do not take chicken Essence so my kids don't get to drink too. I never liked the smell of it.
Anyone thinking about their secondary school selections already? With no affiliations, secondary selection starts from ground zero. -

Why you need to remember? It's your dd taking PSLE wat.

What's the affiliated COP for CHIJ sec sch? Quite generous right? So things should still be manageable.
