Tien Hsia - Discussion

Ymy:
My DD in P3 this year. Just started for one term as has been on waiting list. What level is your kid? How do you find the TS materials? In their mock test, she did not well. Is the material much harder than the school?
I do not know if you did revise weekly with your child after Tien Hsia lesson at home and if you did a final revision prior to the mock test.
Though my child is not in primary level yet, my child has attended Tien Hsia for 3 years since Nursery. No matter how busy I am, I try my best to revise the Chinese word cards with her, go through Tien Hsia learning material with her weekly. Prior to mock test, (yes starting from Nursery all the way to K2 have mock tests - 1 test every term) I did final revision with her. I cannot depend 100% on the teacher to teach. I believe parents have to partner the teacher to help the child improve and parents must revise at home with the child even if in primary level.
A child who attends Tien Hsia classes have to revise at home with the parents to maximise learning potential. My child though is English potato, did very well in all her mock tests these past 3 years. It surprises me to know that at Nursey level there is mock test, but now I find that it helps a child when preparing for primary schools.
Overall, I'm very pleased with Tien Hsia and would highly recommend to all parents based on my high expectations which Tien Hsia has met. -
Hi! Sembgal,
Thanks for sharing. Agree with you must revised with them at home. I hv a younger one in K2. Just joined TS also. I revised with him daily . As time taken is lesser. Happy with his progress so far. I guess I need to spend more time to revise with my Elder one too. Time just not enough… Have other subjects too …
Will make use of this June holiday to revise everything again with her. -
Hi Ymy
The K2 materials contains Oral component which I like very much. Doing home revision helps to reinforce what the K2 children are learning in Tien Hsia class.
For me, I’m going to work on the Show & Tell part and the pictorial description part.
Time is so limited but just try my best to revise. -
Yes. I also like oral components part. It will help when they have oral- picture description in primary.I realize that my DD now in P3 sometimes has problem in describing the picture. It is good to build good foundation from young. I should have done more with my DD when she is younger. Hope it is not too late now.

The K2 Spelling list is challenging indeed.
听写单 (二)
1) 牛比羊大。
2)她一边洗衣,一边唱歌。
3)我先洗手,才吃木瓜。
My child told me the previous spelling, she had to write fast, or else teacher will not wait and move on to next one.
Good! This is good preparatory practice. Otherwise my child think she can take her own sweet time. -
Monster Mummy:
The renovation will complete in September. The AMK branch will continue operate so there might be possibility of some teachers remain. This still not known yet.
Planning to enroll my P1 boy to AMK branch Sunday 2:15~4:15 Chniese Enrichment class, any one's child in the same class? Any comment?
Appreciate your kind advice. -

Has anyone tried their Writing/Oral regular class?
Would appreciate any feedback, thanks! :rahrah: -
Anyone compared Han language sengkang with Tien hsia kovan?
My k1 boy currently with Han language but is considering of enrol him to Tien hsia due to timing & location.
which centre is better? i want to stick to it till pri/sec.
But not sure which is a better choice. -
According to research, children who acquire a second language like Mother Tongue Language will develop greater focus and develop their concentration skills to a higher extent than their friends who communicate only in one language. Children who learn both English and Mother Tongue Language before the age of eight have a greater chance at acquiring both languages at a higher level than their friends who start later. I’m glad I started my child in Tien Hsia when she was in Nursery and she has grown to enjoy Mother Tongue Language activities and express her enjoyment in many ways at her current level, K2 now.
It was the right decision to place my child in Tien Hsia to develop her speaking skills and lay the foundation for her to understand how oral language and print complement each other. Tien Hsia has helped my child to develop her speaking skill which is critical in her later development of both reading comprehension and writing skills. I’m thankful to get a good teacher who provides adequate guidance and help to scaffold my child’s learning. -
for those who send their children to Tien Hsia, what do they teach in compo writing class and enrichment class?
how many of you send them to both classes?
