Heard from a friend that the SJI teachers in the IP programme do teach more as compared to the teachers at RI? Is this true?

Heard from my DS & even his classmate from the upper sec. Their chemistry teacher didn't really teach them.

Most of the time asking them to revise by themselves, whereas both of their bio & phy teacher have put in much effort in teaching them.
Moreover he is the HOD in Science :slapshead:

Maybe the HOD going to retire or simply adopt the easy method where since these kids come in with high PSLE T Score,HOD could switch off.

Hahaha...I always thought that the least the teacher could do is to conduct lecture-tutorial method of teaching...similar to Uni style.

This sounds a little unfair towards the teacher as maybe it’s an opinion of one child.


If the claim is true, there must be some complaints towards the teacher and the school is taking steps to address the issue?

I have a boy in Sec 3. He has met many great teachers in SJI. The best ones are not the one who teaches the textbook or conduct lesson the best in the classroom or tutorial style. They simply just inspire or care for the boys.


And…my boy will score his best for the subject(s) under these teachers.

My wife and I are currently considering to let our DS to apply for DSA to SJI IP track. I have gone through SJI's school website. One of the things came to my mind is the SJI's IP curriculum. How does your DS finds it...the academic part and the projects portion?

I am not sure what exactly are you looking for when you ask for DS's opinion. I hope I am on the right track in answering your question. Basically, project is a part of academic work these days. Ds is definitely one who prefer spending time and effort in doing project rather than mugging for exam/tests. I too personally think project work help prepare a student better for life/work than exam.

For IP students, they are mandated to do an independent study module in the lower sec. For OP students, this will be optional. ISM requires the student to propose an inquiry question that will guide their research. The inquiry question must come from a topic that they are interested in and need not be related to any academic subjects. You can read more about ISM at the link below

For IP track, in my opinion is more suited for independent learners who are inquisitive and self-driven. If one is expecting spoon-feeding kind of learning style, then perhaps IP may not go too well.

Agreed that in IP Track they need do some projects like ADM & ISM. So the child need to be very independent. If not an \"O Track\" would be more suitable in which in 3.25 or 3.5 yrs later, the child are into their preparation mode for O level exam.
