All About Full-Time Maids

So Indonesian govt going to stop exporting live-in maids to SG. Instead they supposed to live in hostel and only report for work during normal working hours to prevent unpaid overtime work, prevent abuse etc
Will it work ? -
i think this is going to be NATO (no action talk only) if Indonesia stop exporting live-in maids, are they going to create jobs for their people?
So then what? agency need to find dormitory and house Indonesia FDW? think agency will source from other countries instead of adding unnecessary costs… or worse… like the compensation for sundays off, employers need to fork out more for Indonesia FDW to stay-in -

Loan. Since they are living out, they should be responsible for their own loan like what HK is doing.
Travel. As they are new, how to travel from dormitory to employer's home?
Working hours. They are to work regular hours. So what is regular hours? Like office workers 9 - 6 or 8.30 - 5.30?
Overtime. They are to be compensated if work late. So what if they dilly dally purposely to work late
Security bond. There should not be a security bond, if maid runs away who is liable since they are not under our roof.
Dormitory. Who will build?
At the end is about money! They will say if need to live-in, will have to pay $XXX amount of money! They know HK, SG and TW need maids, so try every means to get money! Then we better be smart and go look for other sources. Should we give in to their never ending demands? They also want their workers to have a union in each country! -
In a way its good for them to live out and come at a certain time work and leave for their hostel etc… just hope they do like macau , pay their own accommodation. My friends ex maid went to macau and has to pay for her own accommodation. she found a place that both men and women are sharing and has just enuff space for her mattress. paying like $150 a month. She has to leave her employers house by Friday and back on Monday. So with her $600plus salary shes left with little after paying for accommodation and food.

Same for HK. And there is no heater/heated water in winter.
Heard some prefer to stay-in with employer even if it means sleeping on the kitchen floor. -

Good provided they don't ask us to absorb the cost. HK used to have and no longer allowed years ago, now all maids have to live with employer.moonee:

HK pays higher than Macau but some in hk are paid less then what they should recive , the maid I mentioned is actually suppose to leave the house on a Thursday but requested to stay till Friday instead. She ws left with no money and wanted to borrow frm her spore employer after working in Macau. She cant return to phillippines cos she wont be able to come out to work overseas as she left frm spore to Hk. ie illegal in phillippines so if she goes back and try to leave for overeas work she will be off loaded at the airport.
I guess in spore (as we are So proper) the indons will probably get a hostel to stay, pregnancies will increase, theft too, they can come to yr home and slowly eyeball what they want and steal at their own time. Emplolyers will probably still be responsible for any criminal activities. haha and they can sneek out and work for other houses and M O M WILL never KNOW. Banglas will b the happiest in spore too. Even if they lock the hostel gate and montor their time, theres always 2 ways to everything. So to prevent all this, everything boils down to money. Ai yah, just don't take indons since Indonesia says they want to give them jobs but there aint any hig paying jobs for their standard.

Hello Everyone ,
May I clarify and confirm , if my helper want to go back home earlier than contract period, i will still be responsible to pay for her air ticket ?
It' so unfair to me.

Hi, Littlefren123,
Yes. No choice is one of the unfair regulation for employer.
I will prefer they set a time frame like prorate the airticket money against how long they have work for us.
