Cancer is happening all around me. It used to be so n so’s father or mother got cancer but nowadays it becomes so n so contracted it. It pains me to see pp I knw suffer n lose so much weight while undergoing treatment. Yet I can’t do anything for them. I don’t even know what to say to them, afraid I’ll say the wrong thing. Everyday we see reports of pp passing on bec of cancer. I wonder will I b the next person getting it. I hate to hear this word cancer. Yet I’m hearing and seeing it more and more!

Part of this increase is better diagnosis. 30-40 years ago, many cancers would be undetected until the final stages, and the patient would die fairly quickly. Now, with earlier diagnosis and better treatment, cancer sufferers will be around undergoing treatment or between treatments for years. Also, in the past, more people would die from things like Hep B, typhoid, TB, pneumonia etc long before any cancer surfaced. I’m not saying that cancer incidence hasn’t increased, just that it may not be as much as it seems.

            this is true.
Probably I mentioned before that during my check-up earlier, I asked doc why so many pple suffering fr cancer. she said one of the reasons could be due to longevity. As we live longer, there may be more chances for our cells to grow abnormally. In the past, pple died earlier and so such chances may be lower,
She did tell me dementia may be more frightening than cancer.
The hear-say now is 1 in 3 would suffer fr cancer.

In Singapore is there anywhere to go for a full cancer screening?

If so how often should we be checked?

At some clinics or hospitals, there are various cancer tumour marker tests and scans on the body available.
