Hi, Dear friends, any suggestions for application of Mathematics Subject in UK University?

1)\tMy son wants to study Mathematics in Oxford/Imperial College/UCL/LSE, Further Math is required, however, no further math is offered in Singapore A Level, is there chance to enter such universities without further math?
      2)\tAny other suggestions for application?

      Thank you very much.

You should check the UCAS website and also see the passes required for those uni you are hoping for

Why not write to those universities and ask? If there is no such subject in Singapore, they must have a way to deal with that.

Oxford highly recommends that F Math have been taken, but it's not compulsory for application. But applicants do need to take MAT, the math admissions test. Imperial also needs students to have taken MAT. That would figure highly in their consideration I assume.

My ds is in j1 ri this year. His geography notes are very disorganised and he doesn’t understand them at all. Which is such a shame, my dd was in the same school last year and she enjoyed her geography’s teacher lessons which is why she encouraged her brother to take up the subject. Do you know which jc has good geography notes?

Thot the students use the same set of notes, regardless who the teacher is ?

Your DS can study his jie-jie's Geog notes, if indeed your DD had better notes last year. Can't he ?

They changed syllabus so my son cannot ask his sis. Anyone know a jc with good geography notes. Also my son’s teacher is making them do a lot of groupwork, presentations and self research. He just sit there in class and watch them research. Is this happening in other schools too?

If you do very well in MAT, >80 (average score of successful applicants was 63 last year), and do decently in the interviews, ie able to verbalise your mathematical thinking as you solve the problems presented to you, able to take hints from the tutors, you should get an offer. You are not expected to be able to solve the questions immediately. They like to see your problem-solving process.

There is a chart here https://www.maths.ox.ac.uk/system/files ... 202015.pdf which shows that almost everyone who scored above 80 got an offer. Of course, it could be natural selection since those who score highly on the MAT are likely to do well in math tutorial setting (which is what the interviews hope to simulate) too.

How about history in comparison to geography? My son is currently having a lot of problems with geography and he is wondering if he can change to history after half a year in j1 I tried to discourage but it seems like he doesn’t understand geography at all. But changing subject now will surely put him at a disadvantage right? Also the school will not agree?
