Frankly, with the number of KS parents doing grassroot and volunteer work, 2B might turn out to be more competitive than 2C.
Even if is very competitive at Phase 2B, at least parents have 2 times of trying their luck to bite the cherry, instead of only one time at Phase 2C, esp for Methodist church members or grassroots leaders, staying < 1 km from ACS (primary)

      Which is better ?
Given only One chance, or 2 chances, to bite the same cherry ?

However, it is a commonly known fact that many parents in ACS, are rich.
Do you think got old boy want to save a few hundred $ alumni fees ?
Yes. I am saying this because I have met a couple of them who still think Phase 2A(2) is 'safe' (based on historical trend) and decided against joining OBA.... And they are quite 'well-to-do' (not the rich type though) and can easily afford the few hundred dollars of alumni fees. Perhaps the few hundred dollars make them feel richer???

By the way, your analysis is TOP-notched.

Those old boys still inside Phase 2A(2) : why regard Phase 2A(2) as \"safe\" ?
maybe because they assume that not many boys are born, in the year of the Tiger (bound to have many seats, left)

Many din expect now left only a few seats.

But many expect many boys to be born in the year of the Dragon.
Hence, 2 years from now, for 2019 P1 intake : many will rush to join 2A(1)

Historically, ACS Primary has enough vacancies upto Phase 2A(2) as there were no 40 reserved vacancies for Phase 2B and 2C (this only started last year?). Even last year, the trend continued despite the new ruling. So there will be those who think it is not necessary to join OBA. Unfortunately, their 'gamble' did not pay off this year

Like you rightly put, this year's registration for Phase 2A(1) is unexpected for ACS Primary. Many old boys having boys born in the Year of the Tiger. Who would have expected this?

Looks like the unexpected beneficiary of this new development will be OBA... :censored:

It would have been too late to join the alumni after seeing what happened to SNGS at 2A(1) last year, cos we had to join the alumni no later than 30 Jun 2015 which was before last year’s P1 exercise. The surge in OBA was possibly due to a centenary promotion in 2014 where old boys only needed to pay a fraction of the usual membership fee. It was truly God’s gift that came at the right time. But also the cause for the nail-biting "action" (or, luckily in this case, lack of) after seeing the vacancies whittle down with the high take-up rate at Phase 1…

It was still a stressful day for me. I’m in 2A(1) and when I went down to register yesterday at 2:30pm, I was already No 99 in the queue with more parents behind me! God bless … stopped at 119.

To be on the safe side from next year, I think schools with alumni will start attracting parents to register to enjoy phase 2A1.

luckily, the Phase 2A(1) alumni fees paid, is for ... entire life-time.
Hence, need to pay once, one-time, only.

                      eg
if an old ACS boy have 3 sons (born in different years) : just pay once, will do.
Not pay x3, to send all his 3 sons, back to ACS (primary).

No need to pay 3x...because after the oldest son enters the school, younger siblings will enjoy phase 1.
