I failed my cholesterol test in my recent med check up. Doc was suggesting medication but I told him that I want to try to diet and exercise for 3 months to see whether I can improve the readings. If I fail, then another 3 months. If still fail, then no choice I have to get a lifetime membership within the big family of Crestor/Zocor (statin).

I started to research a lot on health for the past 2 months to have a healthier diet (not that my diet was unhealthy to begin with actually).

I chanced upon this excellent lecture that has more than 6.5 million viewers:

          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBnniua6-oM

In it, it talks about sugar, inflammation, metabolic disorders, etc, that lead to diseases.

Good to know for knowledge and see what you can do for yourself and your family in terms of a proper diet for disease prevention.

Currently, I am consuming less than 6 teaspoons of added sugar per day (mostly from the 2 glasses of milk I take everyday) and am ultra conscious of whatever foods that I am putting into my mouth. My diet now is full of fruits, veg, nuts/seeds, good fats, and whole grains. Add on with a min 10,000 steps per day routine, I lose about 4 kgs in 2 months.

I am crossing fingers that I can decline the lifelong membership if offered again in early August.

My gf told me her friend just passed away at 41 years old from ovarian cancer. She left behind 3 children age 7-15.

She was in pain days before her demise n had to be fed on morphine.

I feel so sad when I heard this.

Life is so short n precious. I am reminded to enjoy each day of my life n to feel blessed with what I have n to spend quality time with my loves ones.

              Agreed. Very true.

My cholesterol reading went from 24X to 22X after taking instant rolled oats every morning for 2 weeks. As it is quite filling, I take salad or fruits for lunch.

My cholesterol screenings are done at half yearly interval.

I am now at 20X, taking the rolled oats periodically for maintenance. I drink warm water with 2 slices of lemon every day (whole day).

I don't exercise so I know the improvement is due to my diet.

                      Cholesterol linked to cancer?

Not aware of any link per se but have seen research which makes me believe that some of the habits which help to lower cholesterol can help to prevent cancer.

I avoid sugar and use honey instead, where necessary. Seems that cancer cells feed on sugar.

I also cut down on meat. There are some research relating to an acidic environment being conducive to cancer growth. Just Google the key words. I drink lemon water because it is supposed to make my system alkaline. Am not sure how true but it does have a detoxifying effect on me and family.

Have seen articles claiming that inflammation also causes cancer.

I use glass containers rather than plastic containers. Kids use stainless steel thermos flasks for school.

                        Noted less sugar, less acidic
