I think the subject poster said they appeal, got adviser to endorse. Probably that’s why it went to a appeal process that MOE will come in.

My fren who is in the same predicament was simply told he is not eligible (18 months of service), and adviser will not endorse appeal.

This thread seems rather quiet this year round, I’m not too sure if it is bcos the new policy affecting the number of applicants.

I guess in the long run, this will really benefits the grassroots organizations. There are more to P1 priority in joining RC/NC or CCC/CCMC.

People who continue to stay could possibly be they enjoy opportunities to know their neighbours better, know what are happening around your estate(eg. crimes or home upgrading), having new facilities/activities, updates on policies to help the poor and needy, feeling rewarded after they get the chance to extend their helping hands etc.

End of the day is how PA manage to maintain a win-win situation for everybody.

Ya.... I 21 montha PA ask me go fly kite! The amount of work I involved this 21 months is totally wasted. Best part, they just promoted me with new appointment for another 2 year term. How you feel?

Hmm… 3 months off is really a pity. There is no way you will be given this privilege as PA (or MOE) has all along been quite strict wrt their policy, especially now everything is processed thru the system. As brought up in above threads, some tried the appeal route thru adviser also failed.

There seems to be a lack of communication/transparency between 2 party on this issue. Your eligibility could be checked beforehand with your Chairman or CM, however being "tactful" is the key. I hope you hv not been given empty promises as this is a sure way to "chase" people away.

I think it’ll be good if PA could be upfront on this new 2 year of service requirement for P1 priority eligibility, applicable wef 2016 P1 registration. They need people to support community activities and you need some "help" to get into a school near your place. At this point, both party can gain from working together (starting from a "short" 2-3 years to mayb a longer relationship).

                  the spirit is wrong bro.

without benefits, you still see old uncle/auntie (no business connection for sure) stay in RC and serve for 20+ years.
free t shirt? buffet? medal? garden party tickets? carpark? maybe, i don't know what keeps them going... maybe they just like to kpo kpo here and there?

                  the benefits is a reward......

if PA chooses to be upfront, it becomes like an contractual entitlement liao.... weird right?

                  me?
mixture of reasons keep me going on.

                  30+ years old kpo man.

The news for the extending the length of GRL service was out in Jun 2014, you should have already known at that time is not on your side, but you have stayed on and served your community. The past 21 months should provide you with valuable experiences and hopefully your involvement have positively impacted your neighbours, that counts for something, right?

I agree that his/her initial intention may not be totally in the right spirit. But my personnel experience is we do have some difficulties to get the younger generation to join grassroots, not to mention coming for the activities organized.

As you see yourself a portion of the members are long timers, and usually the laojiao \"siam\" organizing of events which will fall on these \"newcomers\" (willing and full of energy). We do appreciate they doing their part, else regulars will \"burn-out\" involving in all the activities (eg. door to door distribution of SG50 funpacks, getting pioneers for health screening).

I know RC/NC that don't really hold any activities as they simply do not hv people. Most of the time they just gather, have the monthly meeting and drink coffee. After awhile, they juz closed down.

So is there a more inclusive/holistic of getting Singaporeans to get start and understand in volunteering works? Maybe I must sign up more courses to understand better. Haha...

I love to hear more and I'm sure I've lots to learn. Thanks.

I had refrained from saying this but it's true. There is no contract, after all it's \"Volunteering\".

In my words, I had hoped he will have a frank talk with his Chairman or CM wrt his disappointment. Then he has to decide if this worthwhile for him to continue.

On my side, we are quite transparent on this issue (it's not a hush hush topic) to people who come in to volunteer. Maybe it's about integrity, as we do not want to put them in any falsehood while they are really contributing. Yes... quite a few didn't return after they know they are not eligible.
