St Hilda's Primary
-
My son has just been offered a transfer to St Hildas Primary School. He will be starting primary 4 in 2016.
Normal stream
Please parents, may I ask some questions about your School.
1. Higher Chinese Policy
Students get to choose whether to opt into Higher chinese at end of every year if they meet minimum results for overall subjects.
They will not be pressurised to take higher chinese would they?
===============
2. Students who take higher chinese, have to stay back in school for separate higher chinese class?
Friday 215 to 4pm?
================
3. Is CCA compulsory in primary 4 to 6.
Can we opt out due to Health reasons supported by medical certificates by doctors.
===================
4. Have you been able to buy st Hildas past year testpapers for example 2014 to 2015 in the testpaper market? So far I only been able to see st hildas primary 4 chinese testpapers.2014.
=============
5. What is St Hildas exam system?
% of marks allocated
Continual Assessment 1
Semestral Exam 1
Continual Assessment 2
Semestral Exam 2
Class tests are they counted?
===================
Are there Practical Test for Primary 4 Science Exam.
Are there Hands on Maths Exam like a practical Maths exam for primary 4 level.
What is the weightage of marks?
==========================
6. Which subject is the hardest amongst all subjects in exams?based on your opinion
===============
7. How do they stream students to classes every year? Based on overall percentage.
Is there streaming every year?
================
8.Does school teach Heuristics Maths methods
For example
Before and After
Patterns
Guess and check
Working backwards
Age questions : difference does not change.
As part of maths lessons, or will students be expected to learn on their own.
Meaning questions for maths exam can be something not taught in Maths class at all.
===================
9. What is the student teacher ratio in class?
current school , it was
1 teacher to 37 Students
==================
10. I would be very thankful and grateful for any advice given by St Hildas Parents.
Thank you very much.

1. Higher Chinese Policy
No, you can opt for CL, no pressure to take HCL.
2. Students who take higher chinese, have to stay back in school for separate higher chinese class?
In the past, it's within school hours. Next year there may be changes. Not sure yet.
3. Is CCA compulsory in primary 4 to 6.
Usually compulsory. There is always non-physical sport CCA to choose from.
4. Have you been able to buy st Hildas past year testpapers for example 2014 to 2015 in the testpaper market?
Usually not in the market.
5. What is St Hildas exam system?
Details can be found in student handbook.
6. Which subject is the hardest amongst all subjects in exams?based on your opinion
Depends on individual.
7. How do they stream students to classes every year?
I'm not sure. For mainstream, best class is \"7\" followed by \"6\".
8.Does school teach Heuristics Maths methods
I'm not sure. I do not check my kid's worksheets.
9. What is the student teacher ratio in class?
Some class 40, some 30 plus. -
Hello! Anyone with children attending St Hilda’s P1 next year?
Went to the school recently, very big and spacious after their renovations a few years ago. More importantly, good school culture. -

Quite a number of kids staying in Punggol/SK take the school bus so don't really have to worry. -

How's do you manage the logistics after school? Is your children going to attend the Student Care there? I'm contemplating shifting to Tampines..... -

Hi, I took my son out of the school bus this year bcos of his CCA. Not sure what time the school bus pick up is like but if I’m not wrong, it’s before 6.30am. I am currently a SAHM as I have a younger kid so I usually do the school run. Will you be enrolling your child student care? Sorry I don’t have much info on it.
My girl is excited about primary school as the gor gor has been telling her about the canteen stall and what to eat (and what not to), where to play etc.
Congratulations to those who braved the ballot to get into SHPS, I believe your children will have a wonderful learning journey in SHPS!
