Any Updates As To When PSLE T-Scores Will Be Scrapped?
-
At the end of the day, as parents, we are the ones who stress our kids not anyone else. i think we should not abscond that responsibility to the government or anyone else.
How many parents here are OK with their kids taking foundation subject, going to normal stream? Everyone is talking about her their children will missing out on the best schools under the new system because their kids will score 260+ under the current system. What if they canβt? Are they worth less because of that?
How many parents here are from GEP, SAP schools, scored 260+ for their PSLE? Iβm not and Iβm not sleeping on the streets. -

That one I think parents not OK also got no choice. Actually I have no idea what sort of T-score dd will get come PSLE. Her school is the type where Phase 2C also usually no ballot. This semester the science and maths mean for the cohort dropped to 68+. Yet some children apparently managed to get 100 for maths and/or 97.5 for science.

Solli. My time the score is 300+/400+ one. Dunno what that means though. Hee hee hee. -

Yup indeed! Maybe we should have a simple survey here on KSP huh? How high did we score for our own PSLE? And how high did our spouse score for PSLE? And how high are we expecting our child to score? Given that the syllabus is so much tougher for our kids' generation, are we being realistic? At the end of the day, as parents, we are the ones who stress our kids not anyone else. i think we should not abscond that responsibility to the government or anyone else.

If a kid is naturally bright and have the innate drive and ability, he or she will get to the top school with whatever PSLE system to throw at him or her. Its the average kids which I think are suffering from unnecessary stress because of their parents obsession with branded elite school. Like what LKY said in one of his speeches, in every society, there will be some who are near genius, some average and some moron, and that no 2 human beings have the same stamina, drives, dedication and innate abilities.
With all due respect you are giving too much credit to parents.Veyron:
No matter how MOE tweak the PSLE system, stress level among parents will always remain because everyone is still eyeing for the ultimate prize of getting their kids into the top secondary schools. As we all know that kiasuism is part of our Singaporean identity and culture, so no matter how the system is tweaked, kiasuism will still lead us back to the rat race of trying to compete for the limited place in elite schools. So instead of tweaking PSLE, perhaps MOE could invest more resources in improving the standard, facilities and branding of less popular secondary schools.
Ultimately parents will need to be mindful that its the kids who are carrying the weight and taking all the physical and mental \"abuses\" from extra classes, tuition, great expectation etc and what work for one kid might not work for the others.
if MOE invest more resources in improving the standard, facilities and branding of less popular secondary schools, then I happy other people children study there, my one goes to the top top wan
So getting into a top top school doesnt mean kids will come out top top. And there are too many cases of kids going into semi depression and parents going crazy because their children are falling behind in school. And this result in more tuition, and more stress.
In such cases, do you think its the kids or parent is to blame? What if kids do a reverse role and ask their parents to take up a highly stressful job because they want their parents to work in branded company with 5 figure salary? -

I didn't do well for my psle. My husband got a score that was more decent. But we had parents who couldn't speak or understand English. There were limited resources for tuition or enrichment. But because kids now have so much more resources, we expect them to do better than us. Coz we believe that if we had those resources, we could do better too. Agree?

:hi5: That's what I told my kids too. Given the same resources and opportunities, I would be as good as them, if not better

Our results nothing fantastic. Our parents never really bother also. But ok la, can study up to enough for us and I believe won't go hungry and won't be too far behind. But for dd, I have to let her know and hopefully she is appreciative of what she has now. For her to understand that studies is her only \"problem\" in fact. For my girl, I can't/don't wish to push too hard. I could just hope that she could one day push herself with her willing heart..of course
can be still on time for her national exams. Else, I would be left with little choice
As a parent, I could just pray that I am not too wrong with whatever I think/do for her. -

Really? So if all the lessons were conducted in your mother tongue (eg. dialect, if that's what your parents spoke to u at home)...and PSLE science & maths papers were tested in your mother tongue, u would have scored much better? And aced your mother tongue paper? :siam:

My philosophy is like the earlier poster Grimm...if my child doesn't score as well, doesn't mean he is less deserving in my eyes. And he will not end up sleeping in the streets. There are plenty of average or below-average scorers out there in the working world. All doing fine. EQ is what is needed to survive in real life. Unless u want your kid to be a civil servant

I do not expect my child to get more marks than I did when I was in primary school. I will even accept worse so long as she puts in reasonable effort (ie. pay attention in class and do the school assigned homework). I am afraid my definition of 'reasonable effort' may be a bit lax so far as other parents may be concerned because I don't remember studying much for PSLE myself.

Me thinks you have it backwards. The 'resources' are to be resorted to only when the kid is doing worse.
