I want my son to enter a US university. Should he take SAT this year or next? He is in JC1 now.

At the latest by middle of next year, I think. I don't know specific deadlines, but I believe that applications go in during the later part of the year, so it's best to get the test done earlier in case the dates are over-subscribed, or he may want to take a re-test.
On the other hand, since he is a boy and presumably has to serve NS, he can always apply to universities later as well, so maybe there is less of a rush? -

First, does he need SAT or not? Not all US colleges require SAT. Top ones do. All others accept ACT. For Singaporeans, no need TOEFL.
Next, has he shortlisted his college(s)? Go check their SAT requirements and application deadlines. Some may require SAT Subject Test scores.
SAT Subject Tests are offered internationally in most countries at least six times each year ā in October, November, December, January, May, and June.
Subject Tests share test dates with the SAT, with one exception ā SAT Subject Tests are not offered in March.
*SAT format has changed significantly this year (Mar 2016). Composite score is no longer 2400 like before. It's now 1600. Practise the correct papers.
Technically, there is no expiry date for SAT scores, but most colleges won't take scores older than 5 years I think. Check with the desired college to play safe.
If your son is aiming for one of those scholarships that allow him to be disrupted 7~8 mths after NS enlistment, well, makes sense to start preparing now as they join the college in the Fall of NS enlistment year. If you need to serve your 2.5 yrs NS liability first, you can always do it after A levels or during your NS. Many non-combat fit NSmen clear their SAT during their NS days. They are very free...
Please don't just pay attention to SAT scores. Rubbing shoulders with your lecturers and mentors is impt too. You need their references. GPA, JC Transcripts too. So don't play too much and flunk your promos if you want to get into the better colleges. -
Hello!
I went on overseas studies and found a website that i think would be beneficial to students who want to study overseas.
The website is flyingchalks.com
It is a Free platform for students who are going overseas.
They provide essential information on many Universities, such as what to prepare for overseas studies, insurance, flights.
They also allow you to Connect with students who are going to the same direction, locals which can help students integrate easily into the culture there and seniors who have gone overseas to study which allow students to seek advice from them.
I hope this helps

hey..wouldn't it be better to just look for the universities in those countries, check out whether they offer the program you'd like to take part in and than just contact that university administration office??i think this way you can save some money..and i don't think making a student visa (in case you need it) would be a huge problem
best,
