      slmkhoo:

      Chem - I hadn't heard about the 7% for A grade. My daughter was told that 50% got S & U, 30% got C, D & E. If my maths works, that means about 13% got B.

      Econs - about 50 students got A.

I haven't heard about other subjects. Apparently such scores are very normal for these tests as they are only worth 15% of the total grade for the year. I'm sure they have been especially tough this time round and will be more moderate at the end of the year.
      jtoh:
50% S & U. But the statistics get better for the promotional exams because students would have hunkered down to studying and are less distracted by sports and academic competitions, CCA etc.
Sorry, wrong info from me earlier..

5.6% scored A in Chemistry, not 7%.. Yes jtoh, almost half the cohort scored S & U in Chemistry.

      35% scored A in Biology though. πŸ˜„

At least there is a lot of company among the S & U. The teachers were being very strict, I guess - probably a motivational method?

35% A rate for Bio! What a contrast to a couple of years ago when many had S&U. But hey, the final A level results were still excellent. πŸ˜„

Oh no.. Could I have heard it wrongly again ? Maybe it's 35 students scored A for Bio, not 35%. Haha..

Econs is a new subject, so high casualty rate is within expectation, I think. 50 students scored A, wonder what it is in percentage.

Curious to know the cohort performance for Math & GP too.

@ jtoh.. Glad to hear that cohort results gets better for the year-end Promo exams. πŸ˜„

I did hear from my daughter that the Bio results were much better than Chem, and a lot got A & B, so your original figure may well be correct. My daughter doesn't take Bio so I didn't really pay attention.

So how soon do the dean's lists make their appearance?

I feel that Year 3 teachers are generally better teachers than Year 1 and 2 teachers. Are Year 5-6 teachers are even better?

One that can impart knowledge and critical thinking more effectively.

Each teacher has their own style, and teachers of older students necessarily give their students more leeway to think for themselves. Not sure about the imparting knowledge part.

I remembered dean’s list was out soon after a town hall meeting with principal in August last yr. Dean’s list is merely a form of encouragement for those who hv worked hard and hv done well enough to be in the top 5%. It serves no other purpose.
