Another cool distinction for my little ballerina 5 years straight. Just changed to another place to learn. Great school too. Hope she will continue to fly... :please:

Congrats. As long as our DD loves dancing, let's spur them on in their pursuit regardless of grades :rahrah:

          :thankyou:

My DD only get a merit. In fact, none of the girls get a distinction. Most of them are awarded merit and a few get a pass. Which are the more established ballet schools that produce more distinction? Are we able to get the ranking of ballet schools by % of distinction, merit, pass?

There is no such public information... but IMHO, if you go to respective dance schools and ask for their past RAD exams performances, I am sure they will be happy to share with you if their past performance is stellar.

Thank you What The. The girls spent so much time practicing and preparing for the ballet exams yet none of them got a distinction, is really very sad. In fact, the highest score out of the 14/15 girls, is merely 65, so pathetic! A few other parents also think it is time to change to another ballet school but we are clueless which are the better ones.

Hi love1001, is this RAD exam? Speaking from my dd's ballet class's experience, it seems like RAD exam grading is rather strict and merit is quite the norm. Even some of those who manage to get distinction just scrape pass around 75 or slightly better. This is at Grade 1 level.

I can totally \"feel\" you... I think the parents are really free to explore further to see if there are other schools but before that, ask yourself:
                    (1) Is other students (different grades) under this ballet teacher all not performing well? If so, then the tr's teaching may really be substandard. Cos even my DD ballet class in CC have a handful at every grades getting distinctions (high 80s), most getting merit and 1-2 getting passes/ fails.
                    (2) During Open House, did the teacher feedback about the girls performance? Or if you speak one to one with the tr, what did she comment about your DD? My girl tr have in her mind what each girl will get. She didn't say to the girls so as not to affect their morale, but she is quite frank with parents if we asked her. So we kind of know where our girls stand.
                    (3) What is your objectives? To get distinctions regardless of the prices? I know of parents who place their girls in CC cos it is really cheaper relatively so they are happy with merits. Anything better is a bonus. One parent in fact sent her daughter to 2 ballet schools so that she will have more ballet practises.
                    (4) Knowing there are other factors affecting results e.g. the kids performance on that day. I remember there was a year my girl CC have a very strict examiner, everyone's grades was like one level lower than expected. Other years was fine.

If you looking for one in the north area I can recommend you 2 places. You can also try to purchase the DVD online or from ballet store and let her watch it. The techniques and expressions are important aspects of ballet dancing. My dd has been getting good distinctions all along. She practises hard like your dd too and learns well from her teachers. Ballet classes are normally big so teachers may not be able to see everyone's mistakes. Hope this helps...
