We are catholic, but we dun stay near Catholic high, not even within 2km. and I dun intend to do PV, what is my chance of my boy getting a place there? My uncle-in-law owns a stall in thier canteen though.

Whether u do PV or not does not matter becoz both for the past years, both 2B and 2C conducted balloting for those staying within 1km only. -
suppose if we move to within 1km? which phase am I in? I'm just trying to understand the system. :?

If you have no connections with the school, i.e., you are not a Catholic, or a PV in the school, then you will be registering under Phase 2C and moving within 1km of the school, simply gives you the chance to ballot for a place ( I am 100% sure that there'll be a need for balloting for <1km for both phase 2B & phase 2C). -
I’m a catholic, so is my boy. I’m not staying near the sch, but is thinking of moving to within 1km. I dun plan to do PV though.
I think being a catholic doesn’t mean u get a seat in phase 2B right? -

That's ok. I kept merging them into the Bishan thread because that's where they should be. I'll leave this post here until someone finally replies with answers to your question.Hi,

Firestation,
I’ve left you a private message with a URL to another parenthood forum. You may get some responds from there.
Cheers… -
If you mean, being a Catholic "automatically" gets you a place in the school, then, the answer is "No". You’ll just get the chance to register under phase 2B. PVs are also under the same phase.
From 1) past statistics; 2) judging on how early parents these days are planning for P1 registrations; 3) its affiliation to secondary school; and 4) Cat High’s outstanding "O’’ level results this year, its popularity will only get higher, thus, chances of balloting <1km is still extremely high. Depends on whether you want to take the chance. Plus point for staying within 1km of the school is that, if you are unsuccessful in balloting under phase 2B, you can still have a go under phase 2C, but that’s another risk and big decision you have to make.
Perhaps consider another school as a "back up"? Maris Stella High? Its a Catholic boys school, has affiliation to secondary school, not too far from Bishan, and is quite good academically wise too. -
I'm more keen in catholic high, cos that is the nearest catholic school near my place. I stay in Yishun.hee.
Didn't know that Maris Stella is near Bishan. I hought it is hidden somewhere in the east.hahha.
Another place to consider is St Mic, but that's kinda of far.
I want to put my boy in Catholic school is because we are catholic, but I think it's quite difficult, cos I dun have intention of doing PV and other than being a catholic, there is really nothing much I can do to 'fight' for a place in Catholic high though.

At the moment, other than moving to within 1km of the school, you really do not have a chance to register in Catholic High. It also doesn't help that Catholic has a small intake.
Maris Stella is not in the East, its on Bartley Road :D, well, actually its not very near Bishan, but just 10-15 mins drive, and I think it would be nearer to you than SJI Junior (St. Michael's). If I remember correctly, there is no balloting in phase 2B for Maris Stella.
Good luck in any case, whatever your decision is
