If anyone know of any centre/tutor that prepares the child well for English and Chinese oral do let me know

        Thanks
I have heard favourable comments from parents about the following:

        http://www.lornawhiston.com/post/english-enrichment-primary-6-psle

        https://www.britishcouncil.sg/sites/default/files/p6.pdf

        https://www.thelearninglab.com.sg/programs/primary-6/

        http://lcentral.net/programmes/success/

I must stress that I am not endorsing any centre; I am simply sharing what parents of my own tutees have reported.

Jiang Education Center for PSLE in August at Marine Parade this year. Think DD also attended it in June when she sat for her PSLE this year.
Wang Lao Shi for O levels in June; please check for p6 level

These are targeted courses and is supplementary to their regular classes. Please check with them for details.

I would be interested to hear from parents how effective they feel the preparation done by the schools, tuition centres and/or private tutors were in preparing their children for the English oral examination.

I take the oral preparation very seriously. The weightage of this component is extremely high if you consider the 10-20 mins needed to complete the paper.
15% for PSLE and 20% for O Levels.

But it seems to be the neglected element of most educators from what I have gathered.
Students are given notes (as always), but actually practice I understand is not frequent.

The ability to articulate with proper diction will be most beneficial in life so I do devote the first part of my lessons to oral practice. This duration will increase whenever any oral examination is round the corner.

Hi D3@n! Long time since I have seen a posting from you.

Yes, the point about notes and actual practice resonates with some of the feedback and experiences I have had. I have one or two students whose primary schools (including two branded schools) have given them extensive notes and the students have, more or less, memorised the notes verbatim. When I practise with these students, they sound so formulaic and robotic. I try to encourage them to be more free-flowing; after all, there is no guarantee what the topic or questions will be other than they will be grounded in the common experiences had by Singaporean children of this age.

Oral exam is very important and if well prepared, the student can score well to help bring up the overall grade.

I hope my daughter doesn't panic and keep her cool 2moro.

Mine did batch 2 this morning. She is feeling worried because she was asked more questions compared to her friends. Not sure if that is bad :scared:

when the teacher did 1-1 with daughter, the teacher kept prompting her when the answer given was too short. the teacher will keep prompting for details. it is worrying when the kids will compare with one another after the session. honestly, I would prefer to have the teacher prompting but given the stressful atmosphere, the student will be tongue-tied.

Anyone has recommendations for short term supplementary English oral workshops? Or oral cum Compo workshops? I don't seem to see any in the market right now for English workshops more targeted in oral areas, has been searching.......
