The school had said that the student must qualify for the express stream. However, what is the t-score for express, given that SOTA doesn’t actually offer express stream? Anybody knows?

Generally, for express stream the T-score is 200. Under is 'normal'. But it's always best to aim high and score above that I guess... -
Hi to everyone, new to forums. Finally found out what DD stands for haha.
My DD got accepted into theatre, she is so thrilled! -
Hi,
Congrats to all parents and kids whom DSA to Sota!
May I check how to qualify for Theatre? Any specific CCA we must join in primary school?
Thanks! -

My DS will be joining the Theatre programme. He attends a neighbourhood school and there is no drama club CCA. All he did was perform in a Racial Harmony Day skit.Hi,

The application only asks for results and prior stage experiences, no matter how small.
I think the 2min video goes a long way and then the monologue, group audition and the interview -
The video submission is for getting a place into TA. After getting into TA, I think the writing test and the cognitive test play a more important role in getting a place in SOTA. Before the current Principal, artistic talent plays a more important role.

actually I think SOTA’s selection criteria is purposefully opaque - no one really knows what they are looking out for in the interviews, auditions etc. If you read this thread, you’ll see that some children may have had "relevant" experience or exposure, but didn’t make the cut, and then there are others who just dabble in the art form with little or no outside experience (eg. winning competitions, performance etc) who end up being selected.
-
I think what they want are students who meet the basic art form criteria but definitely must pass the writing and cognitive tests. So if a student do not do well for the entrance tests, whatever skills and awards in their art form will be irrelevant. Typical of any top schools DSA requirement where the students need to pass the GAT before even getting considered for DSA.

:thankyou:

My kid got in too…but she does have holiday classes in her chosen art form and performs at the end of those holiday classes which she enjoys. Her primary school has no CCA for her art form. But from what she told me, she felt she didn’t do well for her cognitive tests and interviews but thinks she nailed her audition. So I don’t know what they look for, I think potential plays a key part in the selection process…
