Really furious and upset. I should have listened and changed piano teacher a year ago. Because of this piano teacher, now my kid hates piano and will stop piano. For 1 and a half years, every week my kid played Grade 3 exam pieces and scales. When queried, teacher said this the way to pass. I wanted to stop kid from taking piano exam, but teacher insisted exam will benefit my kid. Eventually my kid got only a passed. Really upset with this kind of teacher. Teacher has a bachelor of music and teaches in a well known music school, unfortunately, for freelancing, she has no passion to teach. Disappointed.

qiqimi, better late than never. This is not the way. Same for my kids' previous piano teacher - never change their wrong fingering (The fingering is really terrible even for a novice like me but she said it is alright. As long as the kids are comfortable as they are not penalised on their fingering during exams). Keep playing the same 3 songs yet did not improvise them strictly (She said just let the kids keep listening to the CD on the exam pieces and the kids will learn from their mistakes slowly but eventually). As the piano teacher is a nice lady and has been teaching my kids since they started learning, I just leave it until they failed their exams. I know my kids have a part for failing their exams but the ultimate is when the teacher say it is okay to fail the exams and instead of looking at why they fail, she said no need to pass every grade and my kids can still progress the next grade. That is the ultimate. I stopped her lessons immediately. Now my kids are happier though they have to travel to the piano tr place instead of the comfort of just waiting for the tr to come to our place. Hope you can find a good tr soon as well.

Thanks for all your PMs and post. So looks like I shouldn't stopped my kid from learning piano. I should look for a new teacher for her. Thanks all, that's really encouraging.

Looking for a committed private piano teacher who can travel to Kovan to teach 7-yo DD. She's been learning 1-1 at a music school for more than a year and I'm thinking of switching her to learning at home. Weekday/Weekend mornings preferred.

                        Please pm me. Thanks.
