RE: All About Choosing Piano Schools And Teachers
What The:
Thanks for all your PMs and post. So looks like I shouldn't stopped my kid from learning piano. I should look for a new teacher for her. Thanks all, that's really encouraging.qiqimi:
Really furious and upset. I should have listened and changed piano teacher a year ago. Because of this piano teacher, now my kid hates piano and will stop piano. For 1 and a half years, every week my kid played Grade 3 exam pieces and scales. When queried, teacher said this the way to pass. I wanted to stop kid from taking piano exam, but teacher insisted exam will benefit my kid. Eventually my kid got only a passed. Really upset with this kind of teacher. Teacher has a bachelor of music and teaches in a well known music school, unfortunately, for freelancing, she has no passion to teach. Disappointed.
qiqimi, better late than never. This is not the way. Same for my kids' previous piano teacher - never change their wrong fingering (The fingering is really terrible even for a novice like me but she said it is alright. As long as the kids are comfortable as they are not penalised on their fingering during exams). Keep playing the same 3 songs yet did not improvise them strictly (She said just let the kids keep listening to the CD on the exam pieces and the kids will learn from their mistakes slowly but eventually). As the piano teacher is a nice lady and has been teaching my kids since they started learning, I just leave it until they failed their exams. I know my kids have a part for failing their exams but the ultimate is when the teacher say it is okay to fail the exams and instead of looking at why they fail, she said no need to pass every grade and my kids can still progress the next grade. That is the ultimate. I stopped her lessons immediately. Now my kids are happier though they have to travel to the piano tr place instead of the comfort of just waiting for the tr to come to our place. Hope you can find a good tr soon as well.

For those who have your kids on ortho k, does it really help in controlling myopia? Is this the best choice for myopia control. Really appreciate a reply.

RE: All About Kids' Eye-sight
My p3 girl myopia is 420 for both sides. Last year it was 320. In 2 weeks time I am bringing her to see eye specialist. And I have a feeling dr will recommend atrophine.
I read much about ortho k lenses too. As a contact lens wearer myself for past 20 years, I think I am able to help my girl with the cleaning of lenses.
I am in dilemma, should I start her with atropine for a year or should I immediately start her off with ortho k lenses. Appreciate your advises.

RE: All About Market Rates of Private Tutors
D3@n:
What is the current market rate for p2 and p3 for experienced tutor?qiqimi:
Currently I have a private tutor to coach my p2 kid. After 7 months of tuition, tutor found my girl standard is above average. Tutor mentioned my kid has p3 Chinese standard. As such tutor want to increase price from $30 to $40 per hour to be on par with p3 standard. Secondly tutor mentioned, NORMAL tuition is read textbook, assessment and once a month will do creative writing and comprehension. Whereas for my case, I wanted tutor to brief through 2 creative writings as homework, 1 or 2 comprehension and read story books so tutor mention for such case it's special tuition its $40 an hour.
Am just curious is there such thing in market. It's my first time engaged a private tutor so when I was told of this matter I was shock. I thought I pay tutor a price, tutor should work on weakness of kid and when nearer to exam can do some revision. You know have some flexibility. Appreciate advises.

I myself don't practise that and I'm sure most would agree it's a strange practice.
As Mdm Koh has mentioned, fees is set according to the student's standard in school.
$40 an hour for a P2 or even P3 is borderline high if you ask me.
Plus, P2 and P3 difference is not that much to warrant a $10 increment.
If it's from P6 to Sec 1 than I can understand more. -
