Laohuayan or Presbyopia - Options?

jtoh:
Your myopia must be quite low if you can watch TV comfortably without specs on previously.
Yes, less than 200Deg, but I have astigmatism. -

Oh that's low. Do you know if lasik helps to correct astig? -

Not sure and have no intention to try. -

Wow thanks for the vociferous response!
I am in my mid forties, so getting laohuayan is I guess not surprising. I used to wear contact lenses but due to dry eyes and convenience, I have stuck with glasses for the last few years.
I am returning to the workforce of which near work such as reading repts/ computer work will take up considerable time.
Nowadays I do take off my glasses to read at times, but then when I look up, i cant see the faces of pple clearly and that can be embarrassing if u dont acknowldge them (esp if its yr boss!). Also I dont know if taking off glasses to read means more strain on the eyes in the long run. Esp since i do have astigmatism and a difference in degrees of more than 150 degrees between the two eyes (there is a term for this condition but i cant remembr watβs its called).
So after hearing all the responses, I am still unsure which route I shd go down! Looks like there is no perfect soln! -
I've been wearing progressive lens for about 4+ years already and am quite happy with it. Some of my frens complain that they feel giddy. Maybe initially for me but after a while (maybe within the day?) it was ok. It's a matter of getting used to it.
My progressive lens come with transition lens as well, so it has the sunglasses effect with it gets sunny. At least I dont look so \"ah ma\" reading, otherwise I will be peering over the glasses when trying to read with normal lens.
Being the vain me, I get the frameless specs, so that from far, it looks like I'm not wearing glasses. :politebleah: So far, my long-sightedness is holding steady
and my short-sightedness and astig is slowly decreasing. yay!!

Yes, I made a fool of myself once.
I was w/o glasses as I was busy typing a report. A man came; I looked up and thought he was Mr X (my colleague) whom I was about to call. I told him a lot of things about the report and then I asked why he was such early in the office, only to realise he was not Mr X but a new colleague who has just joined my office.

Yes, I think there isn't a \"one-solution fits all\" kind of solution. Different people have different needs. -
I had lasik done in year 2004, after some years i had some degree back abt 25-50, was told by doctor its fine to keep the degree as when i gets older i will get LaoHua so the degree can OFFSET the laohua. No regrets getting the Lasik done as it was so MUCH more conventient then hv to wear contact lens. The contact lens was giving me problems and my eyes will be red and sore after whole day of wearing it.

was told that lasik cannot correct astig then, not sure of the technology now. -
thanks snow123.
