Hi everyone. I am new here and my ds has ADHD, ODD and a dyslexic. I noticed from the way he runs and jumping across some furnitures at home, gymnastic may suit him but I am not able to find one in the north for his age (9). Anyone has any good recommendation? Thks.
Hi there is gymnastic classes at Bishan Sports Hall run by Sport Singapore. It is highly subsidised, big class size, but do not be fooled, it is absolutely good for building core strength and very systematic. The facilities are as good as you can get in Singapore, better than most commercial set ups.
The classes usually have a wide age range, promotion to the next level is by ability, not by age. From what I remember, there was no sweet talk or games like most commercial children gym but many kids really enjoy it. You can go down and watch one of the classes to see if it is suitable. There is usually a waiting list because it is so popular. -
Hi ammonite, thanks for the info and recommendation! As you mentioned the class size is very big, how many instructors are there to guide and watch out for the children and any idea how many children are there in a class? How about the fee range? Oh, and may i have the name of the school pls. Thks.

Bb, it is available through activesg, the government initiative. Just google bishan sports hall and gymnastics, then call for more details. It has been years since my kid was there, but the programme has been running for a long time. There was only 1 teacher to a class but the kids are only promoted to the next level when ready. It is not an automatic progression. If you are not strong enough, you do the basics for another term.
If you are looking for small fun classes with cajoling teachers, this is NOT the place. But if you want your child exposed to proper gym work in a disciplined environment, this is the place. -
Understood. Yes, would prefer a more disciplined environment, which will help my child better. Thank you for your patience and kind advise. :salute:

Not at all. My ds has dyslexia and dyspraxia and I feel doing regular gymwork was really good for his overall development when he little and helped keep him out of the red zone.
Not sure how ODD is diagnosed but do make sure it is not a language issue. I will put a link over at the dyslexia forum for you. -
Hi. Would like to check if anyone knows which are the primary schools in Yishun and Sembawang have strong support for children with ADHD and Dyslexia? Strong support as in not only the Principal but most of the teachers there and their AED are really understanding and patience towards them, and will cooperate with the doctor, psychologist and therapist to help the child together? Appreciate any recommendations and info. Thank you!

Hello everyone,
I am a daddy to a 9-year-old boy who has ADHD. I have been unable to find a truly active community or forum for parents like us in Singapore. I had originally started a blog about my own experience as a parent but so far have posted mainly on topics directly (or indirectly) concerning ADHD. I am now hoping to make it a community forum as well for topics related to this area.
I understand most parents of children with ADHD are super busy and rarely have time to blog or post much on forums. So I have set up a simple mailing list that will allow parents to be notified when there are new articles. All articles are written by myself thus far (unfortunately) and basically contain information related to ADHD. Then I pull out data from scientific studies and comment on them.
The site is strictly NON-PROFIT. No ads, no sales of any sort. I hope some of you can pop over and comment on the articles. Even post on the forums which I have created (they are not meant to compete with this forum since they focus on ADHD/ASD). I hope the admins/moderators on this forum can see my sole intent to create a lively community around this special need.
If we can get a proper community going, it will be of great help to every parent. Those with much experience can share theirs whilst others have a chance to benefit from it. Please help me get this going.

So far, I've written a few posts like so:

Hi everyone,
Just to share with you.. Some visual skill problems may manifest as ADHD signs and symptoms (esp the inattention signs), and most of them do not involve glasses but deals with more eye tracking, sensory fusion between eyes, etc
Here's an article/research that talks about a convergence insufficiency that manifest many similar symptoms with ADHD.

Here's another book written by an educator with a child having learning problems.
