Hi, anyone here has experience with Advanced LA for JH3 & 4? How are the classes and exams? Did your dc enjoy it? Mine will be considering whether to take Adv LA + 2 sciences or 3 sciences soon.

Well, my elder boy took Adv.LA during his JH3/4.

There is likely only one form class for all students taking 2 sciences n Adv.LA/ Adv. Humanities. Be prepared that the other students are usu. weaker in Maths n Sciences. During his time, he attended banded Maths class, but not banded Science class, maybe due to time table constraints. He felt his science teacher not giving challenges to the class, unlike some other stronger science classes.

Elder boy felt that 3 sciences might be easier to cope than 2 sciences + Adv.LA for some students. Sciences have fixed answers, unlike Language.

He asked whether your child will consider Adv.Sci instead of Adv.LA?

Thanks Jennifer for your reply! My dd is pretty strong in her English, so she is finding LA pretty easy to cope, at least for now (her LA teacher also strongly recommended her to take Adv LA, provided she is interested). Adv Sci needs to have strong As for the past 2 years right? And has to be recommended by teacher also, right?

What subjects did your boy take in SH? Was he disadvantaged in Math and Sci then?

He took the physics, chemistry, maths combi, with the other compulsory subjects GP, PW.

He also did a H3 research in SH.

Not too sure whether there r other subjects.

He is pretty much a self learner. So he did not feel any disadvantage, just sometimes he felt bored during lesson time.

He spent quite a lot of time surfing the net for explanations, extra knowledge.

Thanks for sharing! And did he also do Lit as H2 besides Physics, Chem and Math in SH (especially since he did Adv LA in JH3/4)? By the way, do you know whether NJC has some kind of cut-off based on JH4 results to be able to choose certain combi in SH? I heard some other IP schools impose a minimum GPA/MSG before allowing their students to take 4H2 (otherwise, can only take 3H2) for example.

                He dropped Lit in SH.

No sure about the selection criteria, maybe the curriculum booklet has pages of information on it?

                    hi,

I have a friend whose son sitting O level this year, considering National JC for \"A\" level, next year.

He wants to find out -
is it true that JAE (Joint Admission Exercise) students, who enter NJC after \"O\" :-
                    - their \"A\" classes are different from those of the IP students, who had entered at Sec 1, 4 years ago ?

                    - \"A\" level Teachers assigned to teach IP students : do not teach JAE students ?
ie. there are separate group of Teachers, teaching IP vs JAE students separately,

                    - \"A\" level Teachers assigned to teach JAE students : are less experienced than those teaching IP students ?

The Student of the Year for last year A level cohort was a JAE student.

What matters most is the child's attitude.

With regards to the other logistics questions your friend might have, it would be good if he goes for open house and ask directly the school, rather than ask around friends and get outdated info or worse, incorrect info.
