I'm worried too but luckily sch is giving some remedial for the weaker students. I guess most schools do that for P5/P6 students.

Other than sch's remedial, not sure if sending our P5 for enrichment now, shd the focus be on learning/revision ( which still can do in sch/home), or more on picking up exam smart skills (to ace it).
With regard to English, if you are chasing exam success, then learning/revision and exam-smart skills are intertwined. It takes several months to acquire the necessary skills in languages, so if I were you I would start the enrichment sooner rather than later, especially if your child is one of the weaker students. It is important to think about the possibility of testing in DSA applications next year as well as the PSLE.

Then it is not enrichment you want but remedial. There are no quick fixes: your daughter will probably require sustained personalised attention and hard work for the next several months.

In my experience, grammar cloze problems often reflect vocabulary issues rather than grammar per se; for example, some students are weak on prepositions, especially in terms of which prepositions go with what verbs to make phrasal verbs.

Comprehension is a broad area. If you are talking about OE, then there are several types of questions and each type requires, to a greater or lesser degree, different skills.

You can also look at what type of learner your daughter is. Visual learners tend to learn well from books such as 'Grammar Smart' by Rosalind Fergusson (Learners/Scholastic) which has excellent illustrations. In my own tutoring, I use animation videos I have created.

Thanks. Will try addresing the grammar.

comprehension i agree need to address remedially. Seems like inferencing n logical thinking is not getting thru

                  Hi yippee,

You may consider to let your child reads newspaper (parent must select right type of articles for child to read) and National Geographic magazine in order to develop her vocabulary and knowledge - such may help to improve her answering skills.

I have to add that you should get your child to read storybooks as well. It's advisable to read for at least 20 - 30 minutes a day. The more he/she reads, the more exposure he/she will get to written English. This will not only help with comprehension but also grammar, vocabulary and sentence structures.

Well-written piece of work, coherent, with smooth transition from scene to scene and good use of descriptive words by the P6 boy. However, it is a tad too flowery and resembles a model essay (or suggested response) from TLL English class. One sentence with 3-4 bombastic words, is not a natural way of writing.

I observe that many schools nowadays prefer their students’ essays to be original, with simple language usage (not too flowery) to convey the emotions and creativity of their pupils.
