We got the letter to apply under Phase 2B close to registration...waiting for that letter seems like eternity. After receiving it through post, it was another panic period to wait to apply.

Choosing a maid is based on luck...as for teachers, it would be a great boost if the teachers motivate the kids...even if they don't, they still do a reasonable job teaching, but we parents are the backup.

Parents who are applying for kids to enter Pei Hwa are stressed...those with kids in the school more stressed.

Recently, I had a chat with a parent whose dd is in charity 5. According to her, the school conducts extra Eng and Math gifted programmes for selected ones who almost made it to gifted during the P3 gifted assessment. The kids had to attend classes after curriculum time on top of CCAs and supp classes. These kids stayed back almost daily! Poor kids.

Poor kids...as if it's not stressed enough, still have to stay back after school. My friend's son was in Charity 4 last year and he was so stressed by the environment he had migraine frequently and was too happy to be in Grace 5. -
What I don’t understand is whether is there really a need to push these kids? If they did not make the cut, then the normal curriculum may suit them better. In fact, they may still excel if the lessons are effectively taught. Now that they have to attend so many extra classes, wouldn’t it backfire? I knew of someone who made it to borderline gifted, transferred to a gifted school but had difficulty coping, dropped out in the end. But, the child (now teenage) had already gone thru serious traumatic stress and needed to see a psychiatrist. Not worth it.

Yes, burnt out is a real issue here. We always have to thread carefully between pushing to max potential and going overboard. Just a fine line

Aren't these extra optional?
As my boy was transferred to PH for P4, his case was overlooked by the sch when conducting its in-house \"Centre of Excellence\" prog. Is the extra EL and MA gifted prog you mentioned part of this Centre of Excellence?
If the selected pupils are truely capable and enjoy the extras, then we should not see them as \"poor kids\". Just my 2cts. -

The parent I spoke to did not mention about \"Centre of Excellence\". According to the parent, these lessons were not conducted throughout the year. Her P5 dd was still attending in the first term this year. My understanding was the two subjects were not conducted over the same period of time thus one of the subjects reached completion first. The mother complained tt her dd hardly have time for other non-academic activities.Aren't these extra optional?

If it's the kids' choice to attend these extras, I guess they will have to take responsibility and learn to cope with it. It is really not easy for them. If they are unwilling parties, I am afraid it might cause more damage than good. -

A friend’s whose daughter is in Grace said the principal wants to push bcos they are in the top 3 classes. It’s madness, bcos education is a long process. I feel the heat the moment my son went to P1, and he’s an average.
When kids are burnt out, their internal system will shut down and refuse to go further. We really have to be careful. I told my son to be careful each time he does his papers & not hurry through.
