      traswanky:

      1. IJ has many dedicated teachers. All of my subject teachers are very passionate in their teachings and take studies and discipline seriously. Our discipline mistress never fails to scare us with her booming voice 😛 There are many teachers here who have worked in IJ for decades, notably Mrs Tan Aye Leng and Mrs Josephine Teo. Any mothers who are ex students would know what they are like!

      2. Our campus is well equipped with many facilities. In fact, I might not be exaggerating if I say we are more than well equipped! We have various computer labs and iMac labs, a huge dance studio, a chapel and even a recording studio!

      3. The IJ mentality has never changed--although I do admit there are some bad eggs in the school (most of them are seniors) I believe that it is not the school that makes them what they are, but themselves. Our school has never been relaxed in disciplinary matters. All schools have some bad people, so it is quite weird to put the blame on us 😉
as a former student, I do agree with you that discipline is very strict in IJ.
there was no imac nor dance studio then...the chapel is a comfortable place to enjoy some cool air and pray for help.

my daughter is in p6 this year. my dearest wish is for her to get into IJ TP secondary.

hi everyone, i'd like to talk about my school!

i'm currently a sec 1 student in CHIJ TP. the facilities and the teachers are great. the atmosphere is too! 🙂

i've been reading lots of things on this thread and i feel like the negativity mostly comes from hearsay from other parents-- if you base your opinion on this school solely on the comments and replies here, you might have some misconceptions!

If you were wondering, I was not asked by the school to write this review HAHAH. I just felt that the negativity in some posts here were too much, and I had to do something about it. If you have further queries, I'll be sure to reply! Thanks 🙂
            Thank you!

Historical data for 2013 Sec 1 to 2015 sec 1 intake is also available at the webpage, but there isn't any Normal Technical for those years, so don't think there was any NT intake for those years.

I've attended some open houses during dd's time and usually the school leaders would inform us of the likely intake for next year and if not, it would probably be one of the questions asked during the Q&A session.

CHIJ Toa Payoh has an open house on 5th Nov 2016 as per their website. http://www.chijsec.edu.sg/
Maybe you would like to enquire at the open house if the school is planning on taking in NT students for next year as well?

                  All the best!

I felt so proud to be wearing the IJ uniform...was bent on getting daughter into IJ TP next yr. Now that you mentioned IJ Sec having disciplinary problems, I recall those unhappy years in the sec side. Lousy principal and low standards. Someone told me recently that a girl was smooching a boy in the nearby HDB block and when advised not to do so, girl told that person off. This is making me rather worried. 😢 Oh yes, not to mention the number of times the girls look like they are wearing 'maternity dresses' after school (missing belt).

Oh dear , was thinking of that school as a choice , but feedback very negative ? , anything positive about them ??? CHIJ's schools used to be quite good , what happen ????

I'm currently in IJ secondary. Erm... we don't hear about these things much, just at the last day of the term when teachers will remind us of the sch rules. As far as I know, its not the better classes who engage in these activities. I'm in the better classes and I do not know of anyone in these classes who do these type of things (behind classes don't know lah) The maternity dress thing is common though, because its actually very hot and tight under the pinafore. Sometimes it makes me feel like fainting due to the temperature, but what to do? We can't bring ourselves to bring it up to the heads of the school because it contains too much history to change the pinafore in some way or another.

For those who want to enter, IJ is actually really united as a family once you get used to it. Its also quite ok in terms of teachers (except for the occasional biased/don't know what they are doing teacher). Its not outstanding in that sense but as long as you take the time to study on your own or go ask it's fine 😄

By the way, according to what I know, availability of N(T) classes is according to supply and demand idea. If there are many people want NT stream, they will have one class. This is rare though, because 1/8 (the NT class this year) has very very little students compared to other classes. Maybe if you ask the principal it'll work but no promises in this matter.
