Dunman High School (Junior High)

I will ask my DDs to bring their friends home for project or play. With my mil at home, we will know who their friends are. We will even offer to send the kids home and chit chat with them. In the car, you can also listen to the girls’ talk and know if they have any BGR issue.
Both single or co-ed school have chances to have BGR since the students have lots of inter-sch competitions, interaction, etc.
Quotes from my DDs "In co-ed sch, you will see/know more guys. Why attached to one when there are so many options."
"Where got time to date when you have weekly test/ pop quiz, projects, CCA training, competitions, etc?"
"Sch is so small, if sis has bf, I’ll definitely know!" - pro of having children in same sch. They can help me look out.
I always let my kids know that crushes are part of growing up. Crushes can come and go. We are learning to admire others’ strength to know ourselves better. Are they are mature enough to handle ups and downs of a relationship? If they can’t, they should not get into one. -
Just wondering if there is any prefect/student leadership role in DHS? Heard from my ex-neighbour the sch does not have any because all students are expected to be disciplined enough.

Hi,
We are using DSA scouts to enter Dunman High and would like to check the CCA schedule so that I can enrol him into tuition class. When is a good time for tuition for Dunman High students? Which 2 subjects in your opinion needed tuition for most students? I guess Chinese is one.
Hope to get some advice here. Thanks

Hi I am a current Y4 student in DHS.
There is a Student Council in DHS ((which i believe started like more than ten years ago))
I think they will select interns in Y2, then in Y3 you run for student council election, if you get elected you officially join student council. ((I'm not in SC so I'm not sure))
And all CCAs have CCA leaders, i don't know if they have lower sec CCA leaders but you will at least have a chance to run for the executive committee in your CCA. -

I don't know about tuition, but in Y1 our teachers sort of discourage us from going tuition because the DHS syllabus is different from most other syllabuses.Hi,

Moreover, the teachers in DHS are very friendly, so the student can actually arrange for consultation with the teachers ((depends on teacher's and student's schedule)). -

There are no prefects but there are student councillors...
Certainly, there are leadership roles in all CCAs ( i think all schs shd hv ??) n Subject Rep positions (leaders) for individual subjects...
The main role of student councillors is not abt discipline of the class pupils..but rather the committee plan, organise n execute sch events ...
There are even leadership training prog / symposiums made avail to students...
My gal had attended few of such prog during her yrs in DHS... -

Why not let yr child begins his secondary school education before thinking of enrolling him in tuition centres...Hi,

Self-directed /motivated n independent learning is a skill they hv to learn, esp in IP schs...instead of reliance on tuition...
Teachers of Sec1 dont really encourage external tuition...like what poster a13313 had mentioned...
Speaking fr my observations of my gal's peers....All in her close clique of frens had No tuition, esp at sec levels...
What they did was...They formed their own study groups...When they encountered problems in their studies, they helped one another, clarified doubts in their chat groups ... The sch subj teachers would also respond to their questions via chat group or emails...
They werent afraid of seeking consultations fr their respective subject teachers since most of DHS Ts are friendly n approachable...But if near EOY, can expect consultation slots to be fully booked,..
U can first keep close track of yr child's performance ...monitor n see if he really need helps fr external tuition...if he is really weak in a particular subj, then explore tuition to address the problem...
Too much reliance on tuition from Pri levels all the way to JC levels has its negative impact when they enter Uni ...
I hearsay some Uni kids hv constant feeling of insecurity, lacks of self confidence in coping or struggling under Uni extremely fast- paced curriculum ( Oops is really like bullet train...much worse than in JC) becos of the sudden withdrawal fr tuition after so used to having tuition all these yrs...
Juz my humble opinion of the above... -

Thank you for replying, a13313. On a separate issue, I know this has been discussed previously before by other parents, but would like to take this opportunity to find out if you/your friends plan to leave or stay in DHS after Y4?sweetpea:
