Hi zbear. Not habouring thots of leaving, but rather, I am trying to gauge if students nowadays generally stay or leave after Y4? As I read previously that students tend to leave after Y4.

OIC. During my DD's time (Y1-Y2), I also heard of students wanting to move out becos DHS wasn't doing well academically. Friends kept saying I shld transfer my DD out. I was on the verge of doing so but after having a talk with my DD and DH, we decided it will be foolish to do so as DD was doing fine n it's not good to uproot her n start all over again in a new school environment, taking a risk as to whether she can adjust n do well.

I am glad to say it's a right decision to stay as DD has graduated from DHS last year. FYI, DHS's academic standard has been improving for the past few years n unofficially it's one of the top 5 JCs. Teachers are committed n passionate in teaching. Naturally there are a few black sheep but it's common in other JCs too.

Do consider DHS as one of your options.

😄

Thanks so much for sharing your personal experience, zbear. This really helps. DHS is my first choice 🙂 as I believe the culture is very similar to the culture in his primary school (Chinese envt) and academically, it is very good, so am trying to convince DC. Thanks again!
Just wondering if there is any prefect/student leadership role in DHS? Heard from my ex-neighbour the sch does not have any because all students are expected to be disciplined enough.

Hi I am a current Y4 student in DHS.
There is a Student Council in DHS ((which i believe started like more than ten years ago))
I think they will select interns in Y2, then in Y3 you run for student council election, if you get elected you officially join student council. ((I'm not in SC so I'm not sure))

And all CCAs have CCA leaders, i don't know if they have lower sec CCA leaders but you will at least have a chance to run for the executive committee in your CCA.

Thank you for replying, a13313. On a separate issue, I know this has been discussed previously before by other parents, but would like to take this opportunity to find out if you/your friends plan to leave or stay in DHS after Y4?
As of what I know, my friends and I are all staying in Senior High for DHS.
It's more of, you are already very familiar with the environment here, most of your friends will be staying here too.
I don't see the point of leaving, unless you want to take subjects or programmes that are not offered in DHS. (i.e. H2 Knowledge and Inquiry is not offered in DHS SH)
(Even so most people just continue with H1 General Paper instead)

That’s a valid point, about the need to consider subject combination. It is hard for us outsiders to know exactly what subject combi are available, but most grateful for sharing your thots, a13313!

KI is Not a popular subject...
Not many pupils take KI in the whole A level cohort...
In the past, DHS did offer KI, BUT not in demand....thus, the sch had removed this subj, KI...

Not to worry abt Subj Combi at Yr 5...
DHS offers wide spectrum of JC subjs... so long pupils' Yr 4 GPA / Subj combi meet the sch requirements...

Hi Parents and Students

My DD was offered a CO DSA through CCA Basketball. Is there any students in Basketball CCA? Would like to know more about their training style and living style with the basketball team. Heard that the coach has a lot of teams to look after, not only DHS. Is it true? If so, how can he concentrate on so many teams?

Any advise? Thanks
Seem like no parents' DD take Basketball as their CCA.

Is your concern with the DHS basketball team or the coach style?

I am not related to DHS but just thought I chime in with my humble opinion:
- all sports are expected to train at least x times per week, so training definitely takes up time for sports cca rather than clubs and societies
- It is not unusual for popular or successful coaches to be coaches for several schools. There must be some winning formula somewhere…if you believe the track record of the basketball team or the coach is important for your choice of DHS, then perhaps need to do some research first before accepting DHS?
