      Hi Parents and Students

My DD was offered a CO DSA through CCA Basketball. Is there any students in Basketball CCA? Would like to know more about their training style and living style with the basketball team. Heard that the coach has a lot of teams to look after, not only DHS. Is it true? If so, how can he concentrate on so many teams?

      Any advise? Thanks

      Hi thmejlfm,

The teacher in charge (basketball) has sent invites to students with CO to train with the 'C' boys, my DS has already participated in a few training session and he is enjoying every moment...his feedback are all so positive...

The Coach together with his seniors are taking good care of them and they are also very encouraging during the training sessions...especially during PT where my DS is pretty weak in...lol

Is it? But, for my DD, also CO. No news for the training session. Is ok. I will talk to my DD again. See which one she prefer。 Thank you.

Is your concern with the DHS basketball team or the coach style?

I am not related to DHS but just thought I chime in with my humble opinion:
      - all sports are expected to train at least x times per week, so training definitely takes up time for sports cca rather than clubs and societies
      - It is not unusual for popular or successful coaches to be coaches for several schools. There must be some winning formula somewhere...if you believe the track record of the basketball team or the coach is important for your choice of DHS, then perhaps need to do some research first before accepting DHS?
Thanks for your reply. Just cannot decide which school to choose. Thank you

      Hi Parents and Students

I would like to check whether there is any Sec one student joined this year basketball as CCA. Heard the school has employed a new basketball coach. Would like to know how is the training? Need some advises. Thanks

Seem like no parents' DD take Basketball as their CCA.

      interesting topic!!

BGR no need to wait until sec sch....already now in P6 already heard about puppy love and crushes and infatuations....

And you don't need a single-sex school to stop all these with all the social media frenzy...everybody \"make friends' with anybody! I think what's most important is the values/expectations/communication imparted by parents to kids? It's good to get to know your kid's friends too....
Thanks Imp75, yes, you were right. All those social media also let them \"make friends\" very easily.
How is the work load like in DHS? Is it very stress? My DD is DSA using CCA.

      Thanks zbear.

At first, I also thought the same as you, let them have more explosure and gain confident. After a few parents and teachers talking about the BGR thingy, make me more worried. Well, should trust our own kids.

Noticed that no ex-student or present student talking this BGR thingy. By the way, thank you

We are wondering how DHS's teachers handle the BGR's problem. Or they just closed one eye?? I think all the parents know, at this age, all the kids growing, not only the age, thinking also. Anything can happen. Nowadays, all the schools like to have this bonding period among the classmates. That's the most worried part.

I was told teachers in DHS have made it clear to students that BGR is strictly prohibited.. Though I suppose they also can't control what the students do outside the school.. And if I were to choose between 2 schools, one happens to be a single-sex and the other a co-ed school, (the risk of) BGR would not be an issue, particularly if both are IP schools since, once the child enters year 5, he/she would still be mixing with members of opposite sex and so, still chances for him/her to get involved in BGR.

I have a friend, son is studying in a top boy's IP school. He's been scoring straight As from year 1 to year 4, then, after going to its IP JC, got (too) involved with a girl from his class, and ended up doing badly in his promo exam.

Having said that, during my time, I also had classmates going together in JC, and still doing very well in 'A' level.
Glad to receive your reply. Thanks mum_sugoku.

Yes, I understand that outside the school is really out of their control. For us, we think that secondary is still too young to have the BGR.

      Headache!

My DD has CO for DHS and Cedar? Still have not decided which school to put as 1st choice.

Congrats on getting 2 COs. Both schools are very good (I assume her CO for Cedar is IP) n it will be difficult to make a selection.

How does your DD feel? Which school does she feel comfortable? She has to be the one to make a decision becos she is the one who is going to study for the next 6 years.

Do consider location n the logistics as she will spend long hours in school. Does she like co-ed or same gender schools? What about CCA ? (CCA plays a big part in Sec School). Also school culture needs to be taken into consideration. DHS school culture is very different from Cedar.

If you are able to list down your answers, you will get a clearer pix of which school is more suitable.

      Good luck!!![/quote]
Thanks zbear, glad to receive your reply.

Yes, all those you have mentioned. We did considered.

Can any parents, ex-student or present student share your experience? Thank you in advance.
