Thanks for your reply. Just cannot decide which school to choose. Thank youIs your concern with the DHS basketball team or the coach style?
I am not related to DHS but just thought I chime in with my humble opinion:
- all sports are expected to train at least x times per week, so training definitely takes up time for sports cca rather than clubs and societies
- It is not unusual for popular or successful coaches to be coaches for several schools. There must be some winning formula somewhere...if you believe the track record of the basketball team or the coach is important for your choice of DHS, then perhaps need to do some research first before accepting DHS? -
with so many unknowns, I would consider the following:
- Which school does the kid prefer?
- Any existing seniors in the team or any friends already going into same team? Acceptance into team is important too
- Which school has a higher performing team?
- then the usual school selection criteria … -

Hi thmejlfm,Hi Parents and Students
My DD was offered a CO DSA through CCA Basketball. Is there any students in Basketball CCA? Would like to know more about their training style and living style with the basketball team. Heard that the coach has a lot of teams to look after, not only DHS. Is it true? If so, how can he concentrate on so many teams?
Any advise? Thanks
The teacher in charge (basketball) has sent invites to students with CO to train with the 'C' boys, my DS has already participated in a few training session and he is enjoying every moment...his feedback are all so positive...
The Coach together with his seniors are taking good care of them and they are also very encouraging during the training sessions...especially during PT where my DS is pretty weak in...lol -

Is it? But, for my DD, also CO. No news for the training session. Is ok. I will talk to my DD again. See which one she prefer。 Thank you.

Deleted. Double post.
KI is Not a popular subject...
Not many pupils take KI in the whole A level cohort...
In the past, DHS did offer KI, BUT not in demand....thus, the sch had removed this subj, KI...
Not to worry abt Subj Combi at Yr 5...
DHS offers wide spectrum of JC subjs... so long pupils' Yr 4 GPA / Subj combi meet the sch requirements... -
Augmum:
Thanks, Augmum, for chiming in. This IP thing is really unchartered territory for me. We only had the usual 'O' and 'A' and subject combi are pretty much standardised. Now got H1, H2, H3 etc, plus GPA grading. Much more to consider.

Hello, just a Y2 this year passing by. It’s late so I’ll make this short. Just to answer to someone’s post, it is actually quite hectic to participate in the Bball CCA (My form teacher was one of the Teachers IC) and my classmates had to send notes to the basketballers in other classes for Geo near the EOYs.
But I’ll just make a quick breakdown of the 6 subjects.
For me, LA was a breeze as I read widely (Yes, boys can score too!) and I found it to be simple. I scored a consistent A throughout the year. But for our text this year, there was a huge amount of content as we were doing Merchant of Venice mainly. Here’s a tip: try to locate the top LA scorers in class and try to have a study session with them. It works mostly.
For chinese, I can’t say too much, I am horrible at it, but as long as you study the right phrases and pay attention in class, you can score a B. I mugged hard for my Chinese this year and I could have scored an A, but was pulled down by my composition in EOY.
Math and Science really just requires one to brute-force their way into the subject, there’s no easy way out. You just need to drill and read the notes.
For history and geo, it’s all about understanding the topics. For history, you need to understand the links and connections between events, and read your notes consistently throughout the year. For geography, take my word for it, you HAVE to create notes. The PEEL paragraphs provided my teachers in class are invaluable; they might just save your life.
For me, I’m just an average student that did only fairly well. I scored 254+2, came in through GEP DSA. However, I can relate to what some other DSA students are facing. In Sem 1 this year, I scored a GPA of 2.8, and 3.12 in Sem2. My EOYs went terribly, and I scored only A+ in Math and Science, the rest all Cs. (I could have gotten a high mark for Geo but I panicked and forgot every single thing I revised). But miracles do occasionally happen, and I got a final GPA of 3.0, to be eligible for the coveted Triple Science subject combination.
So yeah, hopefully it was helpful, but I don’t expect it to be. Well, good night! -
I would also like to add that since I don’t see too many students replying as of late, and since it’s the end of the school term, I’ll try to come on to answer some questions. I’m still new, so I don’t know if I can answer everything but I’ll try!
Just to answer a bit more, GPA is a grading system where the grades of subjects are substituted by various numbers. To calculate a GPA, the subjects are totalled up and then the average is calculated.
A+ (>80):4.0
A (71-80): 3.6
65-70 (RI ONLY): 3.2
B (61-70) or 60-65 (RI): 2.8
56-60 (RI ONLY): 2.4
C (51-60) or 51-55 (RI ONLY): 2.0
D (41-50): 1.0
F(<40): 0
As for JC H1, H2 and H3,
H1 is half of H2 in breadth but similar in depth
H2 is equivalent to previous A-level subjects
H3 are subjects with diverse learning opportunities for in-depth study, such as advanced content, research papers, university modules, etc. -
HI All
For DSA CO. once you received your posting on PSLE results day, is there a need to report to school in Dec for registration?
Reason for asking as we will be away during the christmas period.
Thanks very much in advance !
