DD did very well in her prelims surprisingly. But made quite a number of glaring mistakes in some of her papers in psle. I don't think she did as well for her PSLE.
Come to think of it, I did not receive dd's preliminary exam results report. Are we suppose to tabulate our own totsl score based on their individual papers? Did your dc receive theirs?

yes , we got the individual and total scores upon 400 in the slip printed.
its ok, u can total up easily n do rough estimate.
But i did feel to narrow the range fr 22x to 25X helps , fr the day receipt of results to the day of sec 1 regis via the system -the allowance time is abt 1 week - quite rush if u need to go open houses , take time off to find out more about all the sch in mind
Distance was a big concern too
Now i see the sec kids with lap top, books, CCA barangs - really poor thing to squeeze bus or train during rush hours..worst if for the case of long dist travelling (can faint ...)

Oops, I realised I don't even remember her prelim scores.

Distance is a major consideration for us since she will have to take public transport. We are not near any train station and some of the schools are not very accessible from our place.
School culture - will DD be able to adapt to the pace?
CCA - what can she join?.... etc
So many factors to consider... on top of the results.
      哎哟呀!

        Concerndad:
        My two-cents opinion..

First..Maybe we can narrow down by having a range first..
        Eg..like 260-250, 250-240, 240-230..(groups)

Second..then look see the CCA the schools offered in each group.

Third.. Check out too the subjects combination in Sec 3, offer by each sch.. some schools (I heard) do not offer triple sci or Lit or dbl Humanities..(if your child is stronger in the languages) Dbl Humanities is not the same as Combined Humanities.

        Fourth.. Distance from your house
Great! Would like to add a little more to Concerndad's suggestion:
Within each range, list out about 2 schools within the top, mid and low of ranges.
        Eg. 250 - 260 range: top of range 257-260 list 2 schools. 254-256 list 2 schools. 251-253 list 2 schools.

By doing so, when you need to put in your 6 school choices for S1 posting, regardless of what T-scores you have achieved, you already have covered the top, mid and low range of schools you are going to choose.
Eg. If T-score is 252, 1st 2 choices can come from 254-256 range. Next 2 choices come from 251-253 range. Last 2 choices come from 247-250 range. Covers both upside and downside in this case.

        Hope this helps.

The most headache part is -

When T-score fall between 240 to below 255, not easy to choose better Secondary schools

Wow phtthp....you have very high standard.

          Crescent Girls (243)
          Cedar (254 IP; 250 'O')
          SCGS (253 IP; 252 'O')
          St Andrew's (245)
          SJI (253 IP; 246 'O')

          all not better Secondary school?

Only TOP schools and good schools šŸ˜„ :siam:

Huh, for SCGS, the difference between IP and \"O\" IS 1 mark? Correct or not?
By the way, if can qualify for IP, do you suggest we opt to do IP or shall we select 'O' so that it is not so stressful?

In my opinion, I don't think IP is more stressful than those top O level schools. Ultimately it boils down to your child's study attitude. Highly motivated, disciplined n those who thrive to learn more will be able to cope with IP syabullus.

Also do note that there is no way to run away from SG education stress. If your child is planning to do A levels in 6 years time, the stress/workload is much much worse than PSLE.

This is probably OT but just want a quick check.

The primary school card will no longer be valid by end of this year, so when will the secondary school card be issued to the children? What are the interim arrangements for things like public transport?

Writing as a first-time mum for a child going to secondary level next year ...

If I am not wrong, The primary school card should be valid till April next year. They should receive their new card before then, so the old card will expire once you activate the new Secondary Student card.

the secondary school EZ card will not be ready so soon. so the kids can continue to use it until the new ones are ready. don't top up too much cash into it.

IP syllabus, in my opinion is not for all kids even if they are motivated and disciplined.
as it is a through train to A levels, certain A level topics will be brought down to year 3 or 4. the child is expected to be mature to handle the challenge. with o levels, there is still breathing space but IP is demanding.

Janet, I hv 1 kid who graduated from IP school and 1 kid who graduated from O level school last year so I can tell the difference.

There are some PSLE students who meet the IP schools COP but are not disciplined or highly motivated enuf to meet the IP syabullus - they are the ones who struggle. But they are the minority.

There is nothing wrong introducing A level topics at Y3/Y4 - even then they are just a little. It's a good head start for them when they enter JC1 compared to O level students who have to struggle more in JC1. Do think of the long term - I always believe - why not struggle n work hard at the earlier stage n enjoy the fruits of your labor at the later stage.

Anyway, this is just my personal opinion. Different strokes for different folks. Everything boils down to what the parent n child wants in the long run n whether the child can cope. It's important to know one's strengths n limitations n work towards an achievable destination regardless of the journey - some take a shorter time, some take a longer time.
