Another thing is the the surgery is a open surgery instead of pin hole.

Just got to know that my grandma’s recent medical check up results were not so good. Hospital found traces of blood in her urine and suspected that she could either have kidney stone, infection somewhere or worst case, cancer!

I asked my mum when is her next appointment for additional tests to find out what exactly is the root cause. My mum told me queue until next year March 2017. I was speechless.

Public hospitals' long waiting time for such appointment still doesnt improve much.

lee_yl, good luck to you in your try of bringing the appt date fwd. In my experience, theres a 50/50 chance. But blood in urine unlikely cancer (this kind of suspense can kill).

Can anyone help? My brother have been diagnosed with a tumor in his pancreas. Half of the doctors say to remove another half say can wait and see if it grows bigger. But if we were to wait got chance to become cancer. So should we remove it?

                  Go for a third opinion.

Most of the time people will remove as no point taking chance sometimes, esp when a person is still younger and stronger to be able to recover from an open stomach operation much faster.

The issue is 'to serve the majority' and the 'majority' is really a lot and capacity is limited. (today newspaper talks about nursing homes and that will be another area of great great great shortage of beds in years to come.)

The average waiting time when I brought my parents to meet their doctors during their regular check up with appointment is 3 hours + another hour or so to collect medication from pharmacy. I did it for several years that long waiting becomes a norm to me that I swallowed and accepted coz the system is simply like this.

The docs don't anyhow admit patients esp those who are well enough to see docs first (I have been to the 'observation wards' of SGH and TTSH several times and the wards were packed with beds everywhere like sardine cans. The wait for a bed for those who were 'entitled' to be formally hospitalised was about 10 hours. I was also quite used to such waiting with patients in the observation ward and I reading book outside waiting for 'news' of discharge or bed availability).

I know UK's medical system is something similar or even worst. So maybe comparatively speaking, we should not complain so much and appreciate that having a chance to wait for appt is better than no chance of waiting. We need this kind of 'counting blessing' to keep our sanity at times.
