      Dear All,

I would like to seek advise on the issue. My boy obtained 3A and 1A* and T-score of 231. His friends also achieved 3A and 1A* but had a T-score of 253 and 257.

How is it possible for the big difference in T-score despite getting the same grades? Anyone can advise on this issue?

Low As vs High As, most probably.

      I know two girls, one with 2A 1B t-score 203. The other one, 1A 1B 1D t-score 194.
Difference of a A grade vs D grade but t-score only 9 pts difference.

Yes should be theoretically possible because of the large range for grade A. 3 As on the lower side vs 3As on the higher side could mean a total difference of more than 30 marks.

Hi Chief, In the T Score reporting , there are 3 scores that seem suspicious

            Maha Bodhi 300
            St Gabriel's 300
            Pioneer Primary 290
Ye Sun_2010, there are more than these... like RGPS. Some of these results are entered in by the same person who joined as a member today

I believe Kiasuparents relies on public to input the highest and average COP of various schools into the system. Hence, while most parents are indeed ethical and input what they think are the correct numbers, some unfortunately will play pranks. So let us be mindful of that and take the scores there with a pinch of salt. They are just there to give us an idea of how schools out there are faring so that we can make a more informed choice for the secondary schools.

The problem with choosing sec schools these days, I feel, is the difficulty in determining COPs. Between the 2014 and 2015 cohort the COPs for top schools changed by as much as 5 points which is a very significant amount. So while in 2014 many unexpectedly made it into what they considered to be a stretch target in 2015 it was the opposite.

My own humble opinion is that 2016 COP will not differ much from 2015. I feel any difference should be in the range of 1-2 points higher for the top schools, because in general the top scores are looking higher than last year's. This is likely due to the relatively harder Science and Math papers...harder papers tend to be in the favour of top students.

Overall, I still feel parents should help their kids opt for their dream school unless it is clearly out of reach, bearing in mind that they may not get their first choice. Here is where 2nd and 3rd choices become paramount and so need to be really well-considered choices.

Just some of my thoughts. Happy posting!

All fake and should be removed...theoretically, it is not possible to achieve 300 T-score...since T score looks at relative performance and not raw score.

Simple...Your boy's 3As probably low As while his friends As are high A, the range is pretty wide. My boy's friend 3A* & 1A T score is still lower than my son's 2A* and 2A.

                      hi,

Am getting conflicting advice from friends and friends of friends...

If DS got 257, would it be \"risking his chances of getting into Anderson\" if we put RI (cop: 261) as 1st choice and Anderson (cop: 247) as 2nd choice?
Looking at the high t-scores in this batch, RI likely COP will be >260.
You can still put RI as 1st choice.

Posting is by merit, not by what choice you put. So your DS will still be ahead of another child who puts Anderson as 1st choice but t-score of 256.xxxxxx .

But I am puzzled why your 1st and 2nd choices' COP is so wide?

If you are looking at Bishan-AMK area, why not put something in between eg Catholic High School whose COP is somewhere between RI and Anderson. My DS is in CHS. It is a good school, and the IP programme COP last year was 253. So your DS stands a good chance of entering.

Unless you are not a Chinese, or your DS did not take Higher Chinese and has reservation about going to a SAP school?
Don't worry. There are also non-Chinese there, and there are students who did not take Higher Chinese in Pri Sch, but able to cope when in CHS.

Hi timtim, I heard it is theoretically possible for aggregate score to be greater than 300.
