All About GEP Schools

GEP test are carry out in whole singapore when kids reaches p3 right?
-
Yes, it’s a GEP screening test that is opened to all P3 students. Not compulsory though.
-
correct me if i m wrong but from my understanding, this year P4 will be the last batch of GEP students …mean GEP no longer from MOE. GEP schools will run their own GEP. Like in the secondary section, the MOE GEP branch no longer actively involved in their curriculum…the schools which are “GEP” schools will now have SBGE prog-- School based Gifted Prog…which may differ from one school to another.

According to the above website :
1. Gifted Education Programme (GEP)
MOE’s centrally run GEP is only available in Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) with classes at Secondary 2 and Secondary 4. At the end of 2008, pupils in Secondary 2 GEP will have to apply to join an Integrated Programme (IP) (if they are eligible) or an ‘O’-Level programme in the same school or another non-IP school, if they wish to offer the GCE ‘O’-Level Examination.
Since most of our pupils are enrolled in the IP from Secondary 1, the centrally run Secondary GEP will be phased out by end of 2008. Primary 6 GEP pupils who opt for a 4-year O-Level programme can enrol in schools with school-based special programmes at Secondary 1. In 2008, these schools are Anglo-Chinese School (Independent), Catholic High School (Secondary), Methodist Girls’ School and St Joseph’s Institution. Singapore Chinese Girls’ School will also offer a school-based special programme starting 2009.
In this page, MOE only said the the centrally run GEP in ACS secondary will end this year. MOE did not say anything about the primary school GEP ending this year. Is there any other news article ? -
Original Title: Non-GEP students in a GEP sch - are they treated differently
Would the non-GEP students in a GEP sch feel inferior? Are they treated differently? -
No one knows?
Also, I heard that MOE has scrapped SAP program in primary schs? I have problems loading the MOE website, can someone verify this info?
Thanks. -

Hi MerlionInGermany, the SAP programme is still very much alive and kicking, and unlikely to go away anytime in the forseeable future. Could you have confused it with EM3 streaming? No one knows?

As for GEP, by definition it is a special class of students doing very different things from the mainstream students in the same school. Of course the treatment is different. -
What I meant as in differently, is, whether they are made to feel inferior because they are not in GEP.
As for the SAP, I was just as surprised when I heard from my friend when she told me there is no more SAP pri sch. I will ask her again, but I don’t think she have confused it with EM3 cos EM3 is never part of our discussion. Thanks, I will ask her again. -

I don't think so. GEP kids will actually be just the minority. Maybe 2 - 3 classes out of 10 classes ? So definitely not. But I could tell, there is quite \"keen competition\" between the mainstream top class student and the GEP student. What I meant as in differently, is, whether they are made to feel inferior because they are not in GEP.

Hm. there is no more SAP stream for secondary schools. The SAP stream has merged into the Express stream. The SAP Pri schools are still around. But many neighbourhood schools are also starting their P1 with HCL, so the line is getting a little blur. -

Whether feeling \"inferior\" or not, perhaps, when you hear voices going round in school announcements like, \" Congra to all children who got into GEP\" , \"GEP parents, .....\" \" GEP students, ......\" and among children, \" ... he is from GEP leh...\" . They really sound like a different class of people.
Until the day of PLSE announcement, then there is less mention about them. And these days, besides GEP, there is another class of people call the TAG (those who were picked to mix with GEP), and to differentiate them with \"normal\" kids, they wear a different name tage,...etc,..etc.
Whether good or bad for the GEP, TAG kids ? What do you all think?
Belief there is no such thing around in a non-GEP primary school.
