Does it mean that as long as daughter meets the affiliated cut off and put as 1st choice, she will get in? It's worrying to think of this for the next 1 month before I get a closure.

Affiliated COP is only effective if and only if it's the 1st choice AFAIK.

i put her affiliated school as 1st choice and she met the minimum criteria for NA.

      sorry what is AFAIK?

My personal opinion is that distance is an important factor during considerations. We also do not want our kiddos to be too tired after school and spend hours travelling..

Another important thing to consider is of cos our kiddos like that school that we choose. If they don't like it, we force them and they will be more upset.

That was wat happen last year for my DS. We are not successful in DSA. So we shortlist a few secondary schools and go for their Open Hse. I prefer Fairfield Meth and my DS doesn't like it. Eventually, my DS chose New Town Sec bcos of their programmes. And the students & teachers are friendly and polite. My DS now is happy there and i am glad that i did not force him to put FFMS as the first choice. ๐Ÿ™‚

This is a very good story. When deciding on schools, it is best to leave it to our children to decide. Remember - they are the ones who have to stay there for the next 4 years. The best we can do is to offer guidance and information for them to make their decisions.

What if they want neighborhood school?

If your child qualifies for a higher-tier school, it is unlikely he/she would choose to go to a lower-tier school.

What are lower tier? Less elite?

Looks like Top score went up to 283 from 278 which is last year high. Does it mean the COP for TOP schools would be up for 2017 intake?

That is correct. I have reliable sources saying people are keeping tight lipped about the mean T score hence the cut off.
Many assume they know but the data is being controlled.
Please be careful about your choice please don't end up not getting in any of your chosen school and get put into neighborhood schools.
The numbers that has been thrown around here are not quite the real Average T I heard it is much higher than you know - just look at how many are above expectation (our own kids) Beware

              Can explain further?

I say, Mdm Soon, please give your son a big hug for his efforts and buy him that Nintendo DS lah.

                http://www.todayonline.com/singapore/kiasuparentcom-co-founder-comes-full-circle-site-launch

It is unfortunate that the article was written in such a way that it can be misconstrued to seem like Mdm Soon was expecting her son to score 250. In the first place, the target was 230, and misreported as 250. And she was only hoping, and not expecting, that he can make that score. She knew the agreement she made with her son was a stretched target, and it was intended to motivate him to strive towards that target. There is no expectation and her son knew it. When the PSLE ended, she had celebrated his efforts with him. And though he did not make the grade, she is rewarding him with an overseas holiday in December. These facts never made it to the article.

I think the main issue was not about expectation, but the the tone of that sms that she sent to him..

No. The main issue is that the reporter has misreported the facts and chose to pick on points that were out of context. It feeds the hate culture that is permeating the world today. If one wants to hate, it is easy to pick on anything - the expectation, the DS, the SMS. In case you are wondering, her son is now facing even more stress than he ever was under while preparing for the exam. His friends told him that his name was revealed in the papers and he is embarrassed and traumatised by all the hate from uninformed people. Please spare the boy and his family from the vitriol.

Sad, that these days, parents have to defend about such things. I used to get whacked if I donโ€™t meet the targets set by my dad. Now we have to defend ourselves for not buying luxury goods that we promised to our kids as reward for excelling in their studies. My sympathies with you and your son.

                      Misreported ?
Nah, exploited the words of a mum who was a little disappointed with her son's results. The depths reporters go to generate \"news\" that can get eyeballs. That badly written article generated quit a few clicks, though I am not sure why a parent's typical reaction to her son's result and parenting are worthy of reporting.

Honestly if all we care about is effort, all the celebrations should be right after PSLE , PSLE results day would just be another day. Hand on heart , how many parents were nervously waiting to see the T score , even though the child has choosen DSA already
