Victoria School

Just one cca will do, not required to do two.

Hi, no worries, only 1 CCA is required. Sports CCAs offer good training and do not expect you to be proficient immediately. If your DS doesn't like sports, he can choose from a range of other CCAs available. Hope this is helpful in his decision.I understand Victoria school requires students to join a uniform group & a sports. Would this put a strain on the already limited time of students? How do the students cope? Are the uniform group & sport very demanding & result oriented?
The main reason my DS is not putting VS on his list is he has the impression that one needs to be very strong/good in the sport that he join to be able to survive well/gain acceptance. Any comments from anyone who has insights? He meets the COP to the school.
Thks in advance! -

Great to have feedback from the current Victorians. :goodpost:
Hi there, I am a Year 2 VS IP student. As far as I know, boys in my school aren't rowdy. Based on what you are saying, I do not think it is a bullying incident, to me I think they were just playing around. No matter what, our school takes incidents very seriously, except I can't remember the school boys involved in one for the past 2 years. Every Victorian is groomed to be a gentleman, professional and a sportsman. Bullying is rare in the school, and if there is a case of that, the school will be very strict with such issues, students may even be suspended or expelled. However, VS has groomed us so much that even if there are such cases, they will be settled even without a member of staff. The students will settle any problems among themselves. I have always admired this in my school.
You do not have to worry about the school just because of this
Will see your son in VS next year

We are pleased to share that Victoria School has been conferred the School Distinction Award, along with 5 Best Practice Awards, by the Ministry of Education in 2016.
The 5 Best Practice Awards are for:
1) Teaching and Learning
2) Character and Citizenship Education
3) Student All-Round Development
4) Staff Well-Being and Development
5) Partnership
The quintessential Victorian experience is premised on character and leadership excellence. We nurture every Victorian to be a Gentleman, Professional and Sportsman. The awards are a testament to our commitment towards the holistic development of every Victorian, our focus on staff well-being and development, and our emphasis on partnerships.
As a school with 140 years of history, we have grown from strength to strength. Our achievements today are the result of the hard work by successive generations of school leaders, staff and Victorians. As we end 2016, we would like to extend a big thank you to our past and current school leaders, staff, students, OVA and alumni, PSG and parents, Victoria Advisory Committee (VAC), voluntary adult leaders who help out in our Uniformed Groups, and our partners for the great work and support for the school.

Hello all,
Newbie here. Saw that the 2015 PSLE COP for VS is 248 for O level programme. Would it make sense to \"try\" VS as first choice if my boy got 245 in his PSLE? -

Your DS can choose any one of the cca, not two and not confined to UG or sports. I had posted this and would like to share with you in case you missed reading it:I understand Victoria school requires students to join a uniform group & a sports. In addition, DS was not very enthusiastic in games/sports and was more of a 'follower' in pri sch but he has changed a lot ever since being a Victorian. It's a school that advocates sports, physical & leadership training. I am very relieved as he needs to start preparing for NS early and also to boost his self-confidence, learn to lead and acquire other life skills.
It would be sad if students only pursue academic excellence but VS sees the importance of an all-rounded education for its pupils.
Furthermore, VS is not a sports school and the students come in all 'shapes and sizes'.
Definitely not all the students are good in sports but they will benefit from the PE lessons.

Hi Minecrafter,
I donโt know the strength of this year cohort and no one know for sure if the COP will go up or down. I feel that you can put VS as your first choice if u want to join VS very much. Please choose a safe second choice in case if case your first choice doesnโt work out. -

You may try but honestly I think the chances are slim though it's not impossible.Hello all,
Newbie here. Saw that the 2015 PSLE COP for VS is 248 for O level programme. Would it make sense to \"try\" VS as first choice if my boy got 245 in his PSLE?
Some info here for your reference:
In 2012, EESIS COP (for top 3%) was 262 and VS COP was 246
In 2013, EESIS COP was 258 and VS COP was 247
In 2014, EESIS COP was 258 and VS COP was 243 (lowest in 5 years)
In 2015, EESIS COP was 262 and VS COP was 248
This year, it seems like the EESIS COP has remained unchanged.
Your decision for the second choice becomes very important for your case. Just make sure you choose it wisely please.

Thank you all for the opinion. More or less confirmed my doubts. I am thinking to put VS as first choice and if eventually canโt get in, all likely is that I will have all my other 5 choices as schools that I would like to go as well.
Btw - what do you guys means by comfortable range?
