Reasons to share with my kid.
1. Tattoos are unnecessary like many things in this world. :lol: so why suffer the pain to get one?
2. Contrary to old fashion, a fashionable one should not put on a permanent accessory that can be dated after some time.
3. Beauty in the eye of beholder, it is a turnoff for me. So may potentially turn off an interviewer for a job, a prospective bf etc.
4. Most importantly, God has made her original, unique n beautiful, why tamper with God's creation unless there is something to fix?
5. Removal of tattoo is just as painful n ugly.
6. If the tattoo is to signify anything, what's flowing from the heart counts more.
7. Tattoos are superficial and artificial self expression, self- limiting. -
One of the great things about conducting polls is that you very quickly realised that you are the minority.
For me, the dilemma is that I consider at 2 different levels. On a personal level, it hurts me to think that my innocent & cutie 6-yr old DS (with his perfect skin) would want to smear it with ink. Unless he grows up to have big muscular biceps that is 8). But that's another story (must be Popeye's influence).
But my official stance will be that it's his decision to make (assuming he's 18 when he asked my opinion). So if my view remains consistent, I would start of by saying 'At the end of the day, it's your choice' and then provide my own views about this. I would most likely end off by saying 'In life, you reap what you sow. You're responsible for your own life, son'
. So I choose Neutral (though inside me I will say don't do it, don't do it). Unless he has big muscular biceps. -

Will explain to her my reasons for objection. If she still feel strongly about getting one, I can’t possibly chain her up. Stalling for time is a good strategy though, hopefully that enthusiasm dries up after some time -
Eyebrow tattoo is okay since I have done it and I think my DDs have the misfortune of inheriting my horrible eyebrows that defy tweezing and drawing.
Otherwise, it depends. But I'm hoping that the pain will put them off. -

I will only be supportive if the tattoo is beautiful/tastefully done, and more importantly, is of great meaning. If it's gonna be her boyfriend's name, or the face of a rock-star, NEVER.
Since ancient times, tattoos have held deep meaning in many societies. It's only in recent times that tattoos have developed such a bad reputation.
In ancient China, only warriors had tattoos, a custom they copied from pirates/bandits/barbarians.
Renowed Sung Dynasty general 岳飞 was the best example. His mother tattooed å°½å¿ æŠ¥å›½ on his shoulder, to remind him of his duty to serve his country. So meaningful! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yue_Fei

I read somewhere that in the good old days, pirates had tatoos of the crucifix on their backs. But this was for practical reason as they were frequently whipped on their backs as punishment.
