Hi parents. Heard from DCβs teacher that there is the optional Math Olympiad training from P3 onwards, by an external vendor and held within school compound after school hours. Any parents have feedback on the training? Who is the vendor and howβs the quality compared to signing up for MO outside (example with Mathshub?)?
Would like DC to go for MO training but not sure which one to go for. Thank you. -
hi! any updates on the new principal? this will likely be my first choice for myDS

What kind of updates are you looking for? When you say new principal, do you mean Mrs Ong who was appointed principal at the start of 2016?

DC just received an invitation to join the TAG1 class next year.
Anyone mind sharing more about the learning experience in the TAG1 classes?
Is the curriculum very challenging? I'm wondering how different the curricula for the main subjects are from the rest of the classes. Are the Computer Enrichment classes ongoing for the whole year? Which day is it usually on?
Paiseh... got so many questions...
:thankyou: -
TAG1 has lots of hands-on projects which make learning more interesting. They will be required to use IPAD intensively throughout the year. They will join the GEP students for certain subjects like HCL and social studies. For Math, Science and English, they will remain in the TAG 1 and the curriculum is the same as other non TAG classes. The pace is manageable but it still depends on your kid. But because they are in high ability class, the pace is usually faster than the normal ability classes. Computer Enrichment class will be conducted on certain months. Hope this helps.

TAG1 students will remain in the same class from P4 to P6, am I right?
Btw, I presume if we choose to take the school issued iPads, we have to pay a \"rental\" fee? Are the iPads needed a lot outside of lesson hours too?
Also wondering what they learn in the computer classes?
I guess your DC went through the TAG1 experience. Hope it's been rewarding so far! -

Hi kboon2009, the MO training in school only lasts a number of weeks. If you are looking for sthg on a longer term, you might have to source for an external vendor.Hi parents. They will usually remain in TAG1 from P4 to P6 unless of course their results are really really bad and the teachers feel that they can't cope. But that's quite rare. However, their form class will change from year to year. Form class meaning the class that they combine with GEP students. So they actually have two classes. They are in 4TAG1 and 4G/H/J (Form Class). Kind of confusing at first but you will get use to it. As for IPAD there's no charges if you use the school's. But the only issue with that is they can't do any backup to itune. So if the ipad is lost or need to reformat, they will lost all their work. Most parents end up buying a IPad if you don't have one. And the school provides some form of subsidies for the purchase. They Ipads are needed outside of school as well for projects that they need to complete at home.
For Comp Enrichment, I can't remember much what they learned.
Yes, my kid thoroughly enjoyed the TAG experience. Hope that yours will too.

And very useful tip on the iPad backup... shall bear that in mind.
I hope the school will also provide more information on the programme to parents when school reopens. I take it that non-GEP TAG students will take the same CAs and SAs as the rest of the classes. Pls correct me if I'm wrong.
