Having been a dunmanian for 4 years, I'm happy to share with all of you my experiences at DHS.

I received my DSA offer for Dunman High School on August 2012. I applied for 7 schools and I was offered DHS and TJC but I chose DHS. I got a PSLE score of 262 + 2. I was placed in a normal class as that year was competitive and my PSLE results cannot make the cut into the so called \"better\" classes.
Year 1 was fun and interesting. We get to choose our CCAs for our Junior High years (Years 1- 4). Parents and students please study carefully which CCA to pick otherwise picking the wrong CCA might ruin your JH life! For me, year 1 was relatively okay and those with good PSLE grades should not worry much about year 1 as the things we learn are relatively basic.
Year 2 is know as \"streaming year\". Basically we need to choose our subject combinations for years 3 and 4 at the end of the year and it depends on our overall grades for year 2. What we learn in year 2 is slightly more challenging and requires handwork to excel your studies. There are required results to obtain in order to choose certain combinations like triple sciences or double science double humanities. With my grades I chose triple sciences stream, one of the more popular streams at DHS.
Year 3 is even more challenging. As the stream suggests, we are studying physics, chemistry and biology as separate subjects, no longer under the subject \"general science\". Math is also split into Additional Mathematics and Elementary mathematics in which both are compulsory to take. Year 3 also marks the year where more and more Dunmanians start to take on leadership roles in their respective CCAs. Time management is very crucial in year 3 to score well.
Year 4 marks another year of \"streaming\", in which we have to choose our combinations at the end of year 4 for Senior High (a.k.a JC). CCAs will usually end for most Dunmanians at the middle of the year. Year 4 is important as the grades obtained will indirectly affect your career choices as the combinations one take in JC determines which courses one is eligible to enrol in university. Year 4 is also our HCL O level year and usually chinese teachers in our schools will push us hard so as to allow us to score well (or get a decent grade) Do note that as long as one gets a D7 grade and above for HCL, one is exempted from Chinese in JC.
Thats all I can think of now.
Do feel free to post any questions regarding my school, i will be delighted to answer them

      Hi hi! Thanks for sharing!
May I know your CCA for the 4years?
What is the School reporting and dismissal time? I remembered at open house it was mentioned 8am - Wow! ?
Which CCAs will need to attend twice a week?

      Thanks!!

Hi for junior high my CCA is Robotics Club.
School reporting time is 8 am. However our discipline master requires us to be at the parade square for flag raising at 7.55 am. Most students usually report to school at 7.30 am onwards. For me personally, I report to school at 7am to avoid the jam as i take public transport to school. I will use the morning 1 hour to either grab something to eat or to study a bit before flag raising. For Friday the reporting time is 9 am
For dismissal time, for year 1 and 2, there are usually 2 \"long days\" and 3 \"short days\". \"long days\" are when lessons end at around 3.15 pm or 3.45 pm. \"Short days\" are when lessons end at around 1.45 p.m.
Most CCAs will need to attend twice a week. Many times Monday sessions are called either by seniors or teachers-in-charge. Most uniform groups, performing arts and sports cca will have monday and friday sessions. For me personally, Robotics Club will have sessions on Monday when we are nearer to the competition season. Hope that answers your question. Thank you

The new school year will be starting soon. I am an alumnus and will be more than happy to assist my juniors who are thinking ahead for their university plans. Remember, it will usually be too late to wait until you get your A level results. There are too many straight A students every year, and competition to get the popular courses or scholarships is stiff.

Hi. What about Badminton CCA? Is it difficult to join for s1 students? Thanks a lot

Hi! My DD is in DHS Y2 Badminton CCA. She was a non DSA, offered Badminton after sports trials. There were 4 DSA girls, 3 non DSA in 2015 Y1 Badminton. 1 non DSA girl dropped out this mid yr. Training is 3x a wk, 4-7pm including sch hol. Feel free to ask if you have more queries re badminton.

                  Boys' Teams not very consistent.
Her yr 2015 very unusual coz many boys are too good. Total 10 boys, min 7 DSA.

This yr 2016, total 5/6 boys, prob 1/2 boys DSA. Not very strong according to my DD.

So for 2017 Y1 boys, 2 DSA boys already started training with them this Dec.

Usually for both boys n girls team, they will take in min 7 students.
Just go through all the sports trial and see what are the ones being offered n decide fr there. Be prepared for 2nd n 3rd choice. My DD went in via T-score, was offered softball n badminton after trial. Badminton was her 1st choice CCA.
                  Hope this helps a lil..

Lol.. my DD definitely doesn't look forward to school reopen. It's a crazy hectic schedule without social life for her during school days.
All the best to your DS! May he enjoy learning in DHS n make many new friends! 😄
