What is the advantage of IB? Will students from IB program usually go overseas for university study or they can also enter local universities? Thanks!

Students from IB are welcomed by local universities as they are well-trained in fine-tuning on projects and are experienced in ironing out differences while working with different teams. These are attributes that local universities strongly favor.

Apart from being more experienced in project and team work which local universities favor, IB program allows assessment of an individual's abilities throughout the year whereas A level relies on a one-time examination to determine a student's abilities.

Hi， my gal was posted to MGS IB. From previous posts, it seems to me that if my gal chooses HCL during the pre-IB years and passes the O level exam, she can then choose another language as the second language for IB? Pls confirm :thankyou:

IBDP students must take 3 Higher Level subjects and 3 Standard Level subjects. They must select 1 subject each from Groups 1 to 5. In selecting a subject from Group 2: Language Acquisition, the student may choose:

Chinese B, English B, Malay B, Tamil B, Hindi B at Standard Level

OR

Spanish ab initio*

French ab initio*

Mandarin ab initio*

Malay ab initio*

* To offer Language ab initio, students must have obtained a D7 grade or better for the GCE ‘O’ Level Higher MT exam. Otherwise they will be required to sit for the GCE ‘A’ Level H1 MT exam.

I would like to know if my DD has to take Chinese as one of IB subjects in Year 5 & 6 in ACSI even though she has passed her HMT in her GCE ‘O’ Level in Year 4? Isn’t it that once they passed the required HMT in GCE ‘O’ Level, they need not take Chinese in JC, like those doing their ‘A’ Levels?

From my understanding, IB requires TWO languages, so if you do not want to do Chinese B, you will have to do another one.
