I saw a user comment on the SNGS thread that her daughter transferred from cedar to SNGS( pg 129) so doesn't that mean there will be a vacancy?

Yes, probably tomorrow the admin system in cedar will get updated again.

            Schootopia:
Tutored a Cedars IP Year 1 last year.

They started off with basic Bio/Chem - Cells, Diffusion/Osmosis/Active Tpt, Separation Techniques etc. Some basic Physics topics in Term 3. Reproduction in Term 4. Pretty classic coverage of syllabus that is incremental in content. Every school does it a bit different. I have to say Cedars' is pretty tried and tested.

Cedars seems to have quite a bit of project work front loaded, with datelines that are close together. Some are due after the March break. Perhaps for them to interact with their new friends. May be new for kids coming from Primary school. May be stressful for those who are not good with time-management, or those who like to procrastinate.

Teacher warned that the exams will be difficult. I found the questions within expectations. The teachers in some of these schools set some questions that are not phrased beyond all reasonable doubt. Yet expecting answers to demonstrate understanding of specific concepts. School internal exam questions do not undergo the level of scrutiny and testing applied to the major exams. So if the student kinda get the idea, is not concise, does not write the expected answer, then she does not get the mark.

The syllabus for Year 2 was given to Year 1 students. I did a first walk through most of the topics with my tutee. That's a good introduction to ease the stress for the next year.

It'll take too much time to elaborate in details. I hope this brief insight answers some of the questions raised.

            Agree.
For IP Maths, the topics are typical of most sec sch. I like that bcuz they do give a good groundg in the basics. Their projs are harder, usu v appln based. I think if the student does the sch issued prac pp diligently. They can do decently with a gpa of 4.0.
For Science, I find the IP students are taught more on conceptual understanding rather than emphasis on keywords.
My older two are in IP. So, I am looking forward to see how the O lvls are like for my 3rd child. They hv pretty similar scores so it will interesting to see how they manage their studies.

              Dama:
What are the main subjects learning in year 1 IP program?

English HMT Literature History Geog Maths Science, all the typical sec sch subjects.
But these are the main ones. There are others like 3rd lang, research (i dunno why this is a subj) etc

                Olive3:

After having my dd in Cedar IP for 2 years, I realised that the best time to hv an overseas vacation is after the EOY exams. That's when she can truly relax and enjoy. Dd continues to be rather busy during the Mar, Jun & Sept hols. Her CCA continues till end Nov.

It is indeed very frustrating to hv missing members when doing project work.

It is indeed very frustrating. Those students who didn't contribute anything will still enjoy the same marks.

My dd's cca training is on-gg, all the way to Dec : (
Actually there's peer appraisal component. The non-participating members can get a zero for that. Also, the projects hv presentations where their teachers do query them, the absentee members usu do a poor job on that.
There were sev occasions when my dd had to do everything and the absentees just read her script. Although it is frustrating to do everything. I tell my dd that she will gain from it since she does the most planning, most research, most writing, most thinking etc It trains her to be thorough, responsible and disciplined, and has bn beneficial to her role as a sch ldr and her involvement in sports.
                So think positive! : )

                  Hi,
Could you please share some examples of projects in Maths that your kids did?
