I read in the news that there will be changes to DSA (more emphasis on sports and other talent). This will be announced in 2017, timing of implementation is unknown. Anybody has any updates ? 🕺

U mean the 2 distinctive programmes?

I am worried that MOE might scrap DSA academic and it is left with DSA ( Sports/CCA). The announcement will be this year, hopefully the implementation is not immediate.

IMHO, that would have a right step for DSA.

\"Academic talent\" will be reflected in the PSLE t-score / banding, whereas \"sports / others\" will not be. \"Academic talent\" gets 2 bite for a school posting using the same talent while \"sports / others\" has to rely on diverse talents when they DSA. Unless the academic talent is exceptional (genius in Science / Maths, but CMI English / Mother tongue or similar), can't really see why \"academic talent\" should be DSA-ed.

For \"academic talent\" will be reflected in PSLE t-score / banding, whereas \"sports / others\" will not be. Unless the academic talent is exceptional (genius in Science / Maths, but CMI English / Mother tongue or similar), can't really see why \"academic talent\" should be DSA-ed.

DSA sports has its own set of issues. Will those accepted be able to cope with the school's academic pace (e.g DSA Sports into RI). Will they simply be exploited to win glory for the school but left to fend for themselves during the national exams?

Does the emphasis on DSA Sports lead to lower standards for the Singapore Sports School?

Hi, may I know for gep students, do they stand good chance of getting CO from RI or HCI if they do not have any competition awards? As my DS is not keen in competitions and he is average in gep, I am deciding whether to get him interested in MO and or to focus on PSLE?

                Thanks in advance!
As far as I know, even those who are very average in GEP and do not have outstanding CCA accolades are sought after by schools like RI and HCI. The interview is very important during the DSA process because in a previous year, a well-informed friend mentioned that those that were not selected were those that were very quiet and were probably not able to speak well and intelligently during the interview and the more vocal ones whose grades were not as good were selected instead.

Therefore I think for GEPpers, they need to nail the interview and as long as they get above 80% for their GEP subjects, they should be very safe. A good and free website with good DSA tips and questions that I go to is http://www.dsainterview.com

                Hope this helps.
