A warm welcome to the S1 parents! Hope your boys are enjoying the orientation so far. By the end of this week, they should know which class they are allocated to.

From experience (i have S2 and S4 boys), it is good to have a class whatsapp chatgroup for parents. Parents may volunteer among themselves to form the chatgp. A good place to recruit members for the chatgroup is actually at this forum (that was what i did previously…i got those with kids same class as my boys to PM me and we exchanged contacts from there to have the chatgroup created).

A parent chatgroup will facilitate communication among the parents, as well as between them and the PSG (parent support group) of the respective consortium. There are bound to be parents with elder kids already in HCI and they will have wealth of experience to share with the 1st time HCI parents. Even if there isn’t, 1st time HCI parents can learn, share and exchange concerns, tips and experience etc through the chatgroup as they walk the journey through their sons’ s1 life together.

By the way, there should be a S1 parents’ symposium on 21 Jan 17 (Sat morning). If a class chatgroup is formed prior to that, those who are attending can take the opportunity to meet up and get to know the other parents better either before or after the symposium. I believe the PSGs will be recruiting S1 parents that day too. So those who are keen to join, do look out for the recruitment drive.

31 Jan (Tue) is also a school holiday in lieu of the PH on 29 Jan (Sun).

Hi, knowing that it's a long holiday, wondering if it is alright to take one more day off which is 1 Feb. Will the teacher start to teach straight after the holiday?

Don’t take chance. There is no reason for the teachers to not teach during lesson proper time. This is not kindergarten anymore. Sec sch is different. In any case, one must have a valid reason to be absent from school or he may be awarded demerit points if i am not wrong.

            Hi,

My son will start his third language lesson (Japanese) next week at Newton Campus. Anybody here also join that class? If let say I want to look for a fixed taxi / uber driver to pick him up every week after his lesson, anybody has any recommendation where can I find such a reliable driver? Or anybody want to car pool? I am staying at Jurong East area.

There were many boys in my son’s class who were sports DSA students - basketball, table tennis & badminton. My son is in a demanding sports too but not sports DSA. As far as I know, DSA or not, everyone train as hard and the same hours as sports CCA is taken very seriously in HCI.

Seeking confirmation - I heard boys need to choose up to a maximum of 9 CCAs, with at least one Sports/ UG?

Are these boys allocated first by their skillsets or by interests?
And any appeal allowed if they are not allocated to their preferred choice?

Ytday my boy said that some sports like badminton, table tennis n wushi kinda of no chance of being accepted coz of DSA \"chopped\"already..So even if they are interested in the mentioned sports, does it mean they cannot put as their preferred choice? 😢
