Ytday my boy said that some sports like badminton, table tennis n wushi kinda of no chance of being accepted coz of DSA \"chopped\"already..So even if they are interested in the mentioned sports, does it mean they cannot put as their preferred choice?Oh My Gosh:
Seeking confirmation - I heard boys need to choose up to a maximum of 9 CCAs, with at least one Sports/ UG?
Are these boys allocated first by their skillsets or by interests?
And any appeal allowed if they are not allocated to their preferred choice?
:nailbite: DS favourite sports have so few vacancies? Can't imagine him joining T&F for 6 years. -
So allocation is by skillsets then by interests?
For example, my son like CCA A more than CCA B and rank accordingly.
But during trials/ interview, he did much better in CCA B than CCA A.
Assuming there is slots for CCA A and CCA B (after DSA students considered), will he be allocated to CCA A or CCA B? -
Oh My Gosh - it is a tough question. I better not try to act smart to answer it. Please seek your answer from Mr Tok AL, the teacher i/c of CCA allocation at the S1 parents’ symposium.

Thanks. I find HCI web really lacks in a lot of info parents care for or important for parents, most are really useless info to parents. Things like uniforms, school timings (what time does class ends for the day) etc are not available. Really headache.
Hi,JJ_chua:
Hi,
Anyone can help to advice on the price range of food in HCI canteen? Is there only 1 canteen?
Thanks.
I talked to the student council & know that there is one canteen at the high sch section, one cafe at the swimming pool(maybe food prices ex?) & one canteen at the JC section. He told me the canteen prices are quite reasonable. There are 2 菜饭摊 at the high sch canteen & priced between $2- $2.50 (for 3 or 4 dishes-can't really rmbr). It's near the bookshop & there are about 10 stalls inclusive of drinks stalls ..
I went to exchange DS uniform & checked out the tuckshop..
Hope my info helps..
Can anyone let me know what time does school ends and if students need to have lunch in school? How many meals required? What time is the recess in morning? Lunch time? Thanks!
For Secondary 1 and 2s normally school ends at 1.30, except on Wednesdays where they have to stay back a while longer to do their history/geography investigation. Friday is compulosry CCA day so it will end quite late too.
Recess varies for every class and every day-earliest recess is 9-930, latest about 1030-1100. School ends at 1.30, some will have their lunch in the canteen while some will choose to go back. -
Oh My Gosh:
From my understanding, Hwa Chong tries to match both skills and interests. Each CCA will consider your son's preferrence, and at the same time think about whether they already filled up their allocated numbers yet, as well as whether your son's skillsets matches what they are looking for.So allocation is by skillsets then by interests?
For example, my son like CCA A more than CCA B and rank accordingly.
But during trials/ interview, he did much better in CCA B than CCA A.

This is the reason why Sec 1s are given up to 9 choices (Min 1 Max 3 Sports, Min 1 Max 2 UGs Max 2 Clubs Max 2 Performing Arts), and your son has to be comfortable with getting into any of his choices. The CCA that your son gets into will definitely be within his choices, so don't worry.
On another note there's still 10+ CCAs that they Sec 1s haven't visited yet, and a further 3 weeks of trials, so Sec 1s should take this opportunity to explore new CCAs and their interests, and don't be too focused on just wanting to join a particular CCA. And most importantly find a CCA that your son would enjoy going to weekly

I supposed so but they do rank the names. Do note that in previous years, some boys are so promising that the teacher or coach would tell them straight that they will be accepted if they indcate that particular CCA as their 1st choice...something like that if i remember correctly.
The problem with the coach saying something like that is, we don't know how many other people he has told this to already. IMO, if your son is shortlisted, he may be one of the students that the CCA is looking out for, but still it won't guarantee your son's spot in the CCA. This is probably when going for trials is important--One trial at that CCA to show the coach/teacher your skills, spend the other trial dates exploring other CCAs as a back-up plan. -
Appreciate if someone can advice me. I heard that Y1 have to sign up for T&F trials via website. But I do not cannot find via HCI website.

Consortiums/class allocations and timetables for S1 will be out today. Several S1 students will also have known their classes yesterday from their senior buddies.
