[Yishun] Primary Schools

The definition of a better school varies. What is best for one person is not necessary for another.Hi
My 1st child was born in 2014 and 2nd this year. I was from Northland primary school, was thinking to sent them to Chongfu cause it has always been very popular and with good reputation. But it might not be easy. Now thinking of between this 2 school which 1 should I choose. Is northland 1 of the better school in yishun. Would also like to find out, I heard from a colleague that if you are a RC member, you can choose to go to the school that you want, is it true and if it is how to go about it? TIA
RC member (or GRL) places you in phase 2b of the registration phases. It's not a guarantee that you will get in given that distance priority and number of applicants come into play as well. That said, based on past history, phase 2b applicants have no difficulties getting into either school. If you would like to take this route, you would have to start by next year, since you will need to commit at least 3 years.
In your case, I would rather stick with Northland and apply in phase 2a. It's nearly guaranteed and no time commitment on your part. Besides, the difference between the 2 schools is probably not big enough to justify 3 years of time commitment (especially if you have no interest of grassroots work). -
Hi All,
I am staying in Yishun, and it is within 1km from the school I intend to let my DD to register. Northland primary.
1) What are my chances of successful registration in Northland. Since I missed the PV registration early this year Jan - Mar, as my 3rd kid is born in Feb, and my DH is working oversea.
2) My parents are the main caregiver for my kids. Their address is within 1km from Northland. Only this year, I moved back to my parent’s place - change of IC address. I am a SAHM. Will this affect my chance with Northland?
3) Should I call up the school to see if I can still offer my PVS?
Need to know how is my chances and should i draft a backup plan now?
Thanks! -

Historically, this balloting for this school took place for SCs staying within 1 km, so, you will at least get the chance to participate in balloting.I am staying in Yishun, and it is within 1km from the school I intend to let my DD to register. Northland primary.

Does your husband's NRIC also reflect your parents' address? If so, your child will be in the less than 1km category.2) My parents are the main caregiver for my kids. You can still call up the school to find out. However, given the popularity of the school, your chance is not high. Even if you manage to become a PV, you are unlikely to have sufficient time to clock in the required number of hours.3) Should I call up the school to see if I can still offer my PVS?
Due to the competitiveness of his school during the P1 registration, please have a backup plan. -
Hi,
Thanks for the reply! will have to plan now…and study the schools. -
Hi. I’m new to Yishun area. Chongfu is >2km so I don’t even need to think abt it.
1) May I know how to find out when are the open house for the schools like northland, jiemin and huamin?
2) Can someone share with me your views on jiemin and huamin?
3) I’m <2km from northland, jiemin and huamin. Am I right that from the stats of 2016, that northland had balloting for <1km. Therefore, all <2km will be out? -

2. As far as I know, Jiemin is more popular than Huamin.
3. If balloting is for those <1km, everyone >1km is out. -
Hi all, just to share that our PV application for Chongfu has been selected and there would be a briefing on 19 April. It seems that sucessful applicants were not notified yet, we had to call in and check with the admin. Does anyone know what kind of duties would the Chongfu PVs be doing?
Thank you! -
my application was rejected

I had to keep calling also, then was told out of 100 applicants they only picked 20.
Was so upset initially but i sort of got over it le, will just reg my girl to my alma mater Jiemin Primary -

It might be a blessing in disguise as she might be able to perform better in Jiemin compared to Chongfu. Jiemin is not a bad school after all, and I dare to say that the standard is not that far from Chongfu. Besides, there's no guarantee that she'll be able to go to a good secondary school even if she's attending Chongfu as it doesn't have any affiliated secondary school.my application was rejected

Dear Queen_ly,
Sorry to hear about it. We actually stay in the 1-2km range and are just trying our luck with the PV application, because otherwise there is no way we can get in at phase 2C since historically Chongfu requires balloting for < 1km in phase 2C. So while we are happy we got the PV, we are also aware that it is just a gamble between having a small chance in P2B vs no chance at all in P2C.Queen_ly:
