One of the reasons why the student(s) who consistently scored above 90% got rejected that I know of was due to underperforming in the selection tests.
Thank you Jedamum.
I see. Just read the different schools' DSA minimum eligibility criteria. Am I right to say that some schools allow all its applicants to take the selection test while some schools will shortlist applicants at their own discretion for the selection test? I was thinking of the latter and wondered why some students consistently above 90% were not even \"shortlisted\" to sit for the test. 😄

Hi all,

Kindly enlighten me for GAT test- is to test Non-verbal reasoning questions type - mostly patterns? Or include both Non-verbal & Verbal-reasoning (e.g. English?)?

Thank you in advance!

It seems pretty clear to me that DSA via general academics will be gone soon...

http://news.asiaone.com/news/singapore/education-minister-ng-chee-meng-urges-students-dare-chiong

DIRECT SCHOOL ADMISSIONS \"It was started to find different pathways for kids to express their talents in other areas. It is not for those with general academic abilities, because you have the PSLE for that. So the rationale is anchored on creating multiple pathways. And we must go back to this original rationale.\"

The above asiaone article published hints that General Academic (means Total overall for 4 subjects) to be scrapped : because p6 students can still enter by overall T-score, but article didn’t mention that Specific Academic domain (i.e. choose only 1 strongest subject, to dsa in) will be gone. There are p6 students who are strong in one subject particularly, but overall they may not do well.

There is a difference between General Academics vs. One Specific Subject domain.

There are students who are good overall in all 4 subjects, hence consistently scored > 90 %, overall in their year end report card. but they do not join any Science Olympiad nor Maths Olympiad kind of competition. they can enter by t-score. No need to apply dsa

On the other hand,
There are students who are particularly strong in either Maths or Science, but overall they are still weak in languages. Because overall got pulled down by languages, hence their Overall Total is still weak.

For such cases, the article published didn’t state that dsa by specific Subject domain, to be scrapped. So if u are particularly strong in one of the 4 subjects : can still apply for dsa under that particular strongest subject
Which are the secondary schools that are strong in track and field for girls?

Cedar Girls, Nanyang Girls, CHIJ St Nicks, Singapore Sports School

I have pretty much heard of this handful, except for SNGS. Maybe I have missed out something somewhere?
My friend DD DSA into SNGS O level track via T&F last year.

Oh My Gosh:
For DSA Academics - what's the minimum overall % generally?

Generally 85% overall but :
Point 1: Pls take note those who DSA are usually really very strong academically. I know of cases of kids who consistently get above 90% in P4-P6 not being shortlisted for DSA Academics.
Point 2: MOE is scrapping DSA Academics (not sure exact date for total scrap but is surely reducing the focus). So most schools only accept DSA Academics if the kids have special academic talents like Maths Olympics, Science competitions etc.

Hi OMG,

Point 1: Do you know why the student(s) who consistently scored above 90% got rejected? Is it due to the student's school? Or is it the lack of competition certs in the student's portfolio?

Point 2: I am a bit confused here. So scrape away DSA academic but have DSA Special Academic Talent instead? What will be the difference? Say if my girl is keen to take the route of DSA academic using either maths or science, she still needs to score high in either subject and attach competition certs (if any), right?
Point 1: Not sure as the students were not called for interviews. Schools do not have the habit of explaining why students are rejected in DSA process. It is not totally transparent in this sense.
Point 2: There are students with good scores in 4 subjects but no strong aspects or competition experience. DSA is not exactly meant for this group of students who should rely on their PSLE T score instead. So if your DD is strong in Maths/ Science and has competition experience, go ahead and try for it.

From the RGS website, my understanding of DSA academic is to just look at one subject the student is good at right? Not overall 4 subjects, I think. :? :?

From RGS website for DSA Academic:
DSA ACADEMIC

Applicant must be able to demonstrate interest and talent beyond the abilities of students in the same age group and/or have a history of consistent high academic achievements in one of the following:
English Language
Chinese Language
Malay Language
Tamil Language
Mathematics
Science

I am thinking of sending my child to DSA preparation course. Any recommendation which centre I should enroll my child in?

Hi all,

Does anyone know if ACSI accepts dsa via performing arts under musical instruments? If so, which instrument?

Many TIAs!
